Candidate Message

Science writing is more than just giving facts. It is the art of informing, educating, and generating awareness and interest about science among dilettantes. A science writer should thus be fully aware of the trends and updates in the scientific community and creatively put forth engaging factual information. Hence, I have always been drawn to this profession as this is where I get to combine my two childhood passions: science and writing.
The coronavirus pandemic has made everyone turn their heads to science, looking for answers from researchers. In this era of scientific information overload, digitalization, and mediatization with unrestricted internet access, several scientific challenges remain suppressed with fake news and distrust in scientific institutions and standard processes, mystifying propaganda. Ultimately, the quality of public communication of science depends on the quality and factuality of published research. Although novel research is published in real-time public domains, the majority of it remains “unfiltered,” causing concerns in research policy and academic publishing.
I am sure this job opportunity will enable me to learn, take on advanced challenges, and help develop solutions standing up to the test of time. Because as science writer/editor, it is our responsibility to give out facts by being a trustworthy medium, find reliable sources, monitor scientific–societal topics for public debates, comprehensively expand the role of artificial intelligence for bettering medical communication, etc. Additionally, the field needs steadfast media systems, focused journals, and forums supporting interdisciplinary–practice-driven research collaborations. We need to streamline the publication process with transparency, quality, and scientific accuracy; strategize novel solutions; and enhance current communication strategies for better reach and understanding of research. I’m hopeful this work opportunity will help me take steps to further my understanding of the field and advance my career potential to take on new exciting challenges.
