The Team: The Crop Science team is highly respected in the industry for its market data and analysis. Our analysts produce a range of databases, analysis reports and topic-based bulletins on the corporate strategy, operational and financial status of agrochemical and seed companies, as well as the key regional, crop and product markets. The market analyst will work closely with our International Crop Science team to understand the various seed products developed using multiple techniques, including genetic modification, gene-editing, chemical mutagenesis, etc.

You have the ability to understand the technology, research and development stages, regulations, and their impact on the market. You have proficiency in analyzing seed/agricultural markets, identifying key trends, and writing authoritative, impactful analysis that gives our clients unique insight.

You will evaluate proprietary and external data sources, create relevant market datasets, and develop models and other analytical tools to evaluate specific markets to analyze and comment on trends, drivers and forecasts for the global seed market.

The Impact: The role will allow you to network closely with clients, create your own presence as an analyst in the industry, and contribute to client support and consultancy projects.

You will interact closely with colleagues on the broader Crop Science Group working across our insights, market data and analysis and consulting teams to create authoritative, original content which informs and supports our readers in their business planning activities. Our analysts become experts in the areas they cover and develop extensive contacts and networks in the industry to enhance their reputation and insights.

Duties & accountabilities

• Gather, process, validate and analyze research data from proprietary and external sources using modern and traditional methods to create relevant market datasets for GMOs and gene-edited products. Develop models and other analytical tools to analyze specific sectors and comment on industry trends, drivers, and forecasts. Integrate findings with secondary research and market trends as appropriate.

• Write authoritative, impactful analysis which provides customers unique insight into the global seed and traits market. Work closely with the international analyst teams to develop a deep understanding of the seed and traits sector.

• Act as subject matter expert. Remain fully informed on market trends. Keep up to date with research techniques and innovative thinking in the industry. Provide client support through onsite visits, presentations, and customer care support.

• Interact closely with broader Crop Science group colleagues to create authoritative, original content integrated across our insights, market data and analysis services that inform and support clients in their business planning activities. Provide analytical support to the consulting group on specific ongoing and ad hoc projects.

• Contribute to developing new products, evaluation tools/methods and improved systems; may also act as lead project manager.

Business competencies

Education and experience

• Graduate or post-graduate degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Agriculture Science or related subject

• 2+ years of industry experience and the enthusiasm, motivation and interest in learning new publishing and business skills

• Proficient in managing, and processing data with advanced excel skills and knowledge of using data visualization through Tableau or preferably Power BI

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable in writing about complex or technical information in a structured, interesting way and ability to uncover unique insights

• Ability to work in a remote, collaborative and team-oriented approach

• Strong networking skills and the ability to develop a vast network of contacts

• Ideally, you will have a knowledge of the seed industry, biotechnology or agricultural markets and some industry experience in producing market analysis in business intelligence (market, competitor Intelligence), product development, strategic marketing, strategic planning or similar function in the agribusiness sector
