Your Role and Responsibilities

Our product helps security teams to detect and respond to cyber attacks in their organizations in a timely manner.

The IBM Security™ requires a Developer Manager who can work closely with the technical lead to create an open, thoughtful, and high-performance team that delivers a polished experience for our end users.

As a Developer Manager, you will build and grow and manage a team, which is responsible for building components of our product, from the UI to its backend components. You will be a people manager, and you will be responsible for the career growth of each team member. Performance reviews, weekly 1-on-1s, interviewing, hiring, onboarding will be your among your activities.

You will enable the team in its day-to-day activities and help organize their work, in collaboration with the team technical leaders. You will also coordinate with other developer managers to guarantee smooth collaboration and communication across teams, and you will be expected to have a clear overview of the teams’ overall activities. Although the role does not require technical work, we do prefer candidates that can get their hands dirty in case it is needed. Therefore, a background in software development is required. Overall, we are looking for a servant leader.

We believe this is a good opportunity for engineers that are convinced of moving from a technical career to a people management career, where the challenge lies in working with humans rather than with machines . Previous experience is preferable but not required. We are looking for someone who is eager to dive into this role.

Responsibilities

• Build, grow and manage our team.

• Hire and onboard new team members.

• Perform performance reviews and 1on1s with each team member

• Provide mentorship and coaching to team members.

• Define, together with team members, their career trajectory within IBM and work to make them successful.

• Help managing other teams

• Collaborate with technical team leaders to organize the work of the team.

• Promote and implement collaboration and communication improvements within the team and across teams of the organization.

• Maintain a constant overview of the team’s work progress and workload to share with stakeholders if necessary.

• Act as a servant leader

• Be a role model within the team, and in case technical help is required, be ready to provide it.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Several years of experience as a software engineer

• Good experience with JavaScript

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)

• Comfortable with handling conflicts

• Emotionally intelligent, Open minded and with a Growth Mindset.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Past experience in managing people’s work, workflows and results (also outside ‘software engineering’)
