Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in the Head for Innovation, Strategy, & Government Affairs position at the Royal Society for Chemistry, as advertised. With a robust background in health and science policy evaluation, extensive experience in scientific research and publications, and a strong track record of leadership in international collaborations, I am excited about the opportunity to take lead in forging partnerships & fostering collaborations.
My professional journey has equipped me with a deep understanding of the scientific policy landscape, which I believe aligns well with the strategic objectives of this role. At Georgia Tech’s Technology Policy Assessment Center, I initiated and led programs focusing on science, technology, and innovation, conducting policy reviews on critical issues such as climate change and energy efficiency. This experience honed my skills in policy analysis, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration, which are essential for delivering the comprehensive policy project on the future of scientific publishing.
In my role as Director at Sweet Spot LLP, I led initiatives that positively impacted the livelihoods of African women and innovated water-efficient solutions, resulting in a significant reduction in water consumption. This experience underscores my ability to drive projects that have tangible impacts on policy formation, and practice, a key aspect of the role.
My tenure at various CSIR laboratories and multinational corporations involved managing drug discovery projects, analytical instrumentation, and supervising PhD and M.Tech students. These roles required meticulous attention to detail, the ability to assess and report technical information concisely, and effective stakeholder engagement—skills that are crucial for synthesizing evidence and presenting it persuasively in the context of the Royal Society’s policy initiatives.
Additionally, my work in organizing scientific conferences, managing editorial for a magazine, developing daily nutritional blogs, editing peer reviewed papers, writing medical content, submitting journal publications, and filing patents reflects my multi-faceted ability and commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and ensuring its effective dissemination. My international experience across the U.S., India, Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa has provided me with a global perspective on scientific and policy challenges, enhancing my ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex policy environments.
The opportunity to work with the Royal Society’s distinguished team, including the Director of Policy, & Director of Government Affairs, and world-class experts, is particularly exciting. I am confident that my background in evaluating scientific evidence, managing interdisciplinary projects, and engaging with stakeholders aligns well with the responsibilities outlined for this position.
I am eager to bring my expertise in science policy, project management, and public diplomacy to the Royal Society and contribute to shaping the future of research innovation, scientific publishing, & government affairs.
