Role Purpose
The purpose of the role is to effectively manage the Boiler operations of the Power Plant, in a safe manner, controlling energy, raw material and other operational losses.

Key Responsibilities / Tasks / Activities
- Read log book, take over from previous shift, understand on-going issues, mark attendance and prepare jobs shift plan
- Conduct tool box talk / safety / quality pep talk and allocate workmen to work area / job station / equipmentand ensure that they are optimally utilized
- Check and inspect equipment / process parameters, report major abnormalities and maintain defect register
- Respond to emergencies, escalate major breakdowns to management and manage the emergency to the best of ability
- Prepare, generate / raise, approve / get approval for Work Orders (WO) and communicate the same to the concerned Maintenance team for necessary corrective actioning
- Contribute / execute Work Permits and Work Clearances or LOTOTO before start of maintenance work and collaborate with the concerned Maintenance team to schedule jobs on priority
- Perform mechanical isolation and / or electrical isolation / de-energization of equipment, confirm the same on the clearance form and submit LOTOTO before maintenance work can begin
- Ensure appropriate takeover of equipment post Work Permit / Word Order (WO) completion and give feedback regarding the equipment performance and running condition
- Regularly track and record various critical process parameters and take readings as per SOP / SWI; in case of any major abnormalities, follow the SOP /SWI to engage with superiors and seek instructions as required
- Perform jobs as per schedule and SOP during survey / planned shutdown / commissioning of equipment or process
- Control all types of operational losses and contribute to controlling of utilization of natural resources such as raw materials, electricity, air, fuel, oil, water etc.
- Monitor workmen in terms of quality of work execution and adherence to SOP /SWI and safety norms while they are performing the activities
- Undertake equipment and / or process changeover on a weekly and monthly basis, or as and when needed, as per SOP /SWI; maintain housekeeping standards in the work area under control
- Ensure proper tools, materials, consumables are available and used; if any tools or measurement instruments are being used, ensure that they are calibrated, and workmen use the proper tool for the related job. Ensure that proper distribution of such materials and tools is done during the shift
- Ensure that testing of emergency equipment in the work area (such as fire pumps and hydrants, compressed air system and other emergency equipment) is undertaken as per schedule
- Identify hazards, conduct safety (BBS) and near-miss observations and instruct workmen on safety procedures and standards to be followed; ensure safety reporting at the end of the shift
- Contribute to RCM / IMS / IMEA activities; facilitate QC activities, conduct WCM small group meetings, motivate team to participate in such activities and undertake skill development of Operators through OJT (on the job) training / classroom training
- Co-ordinate with other departments, third party vendors and management to ensure smooth information flow to ensure that operations are carried out and any emergencies, challenges, issues are resolved without any losses being incurred
- Effectively transition to other shifts and provide shift reporting / e-Reporting / production MIS at the end of the shift, including making entry in the log book
