This is the third most important event of the FIFA calendar for Women’s Competitions, with 16 countries playing a total of 32 games. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup has been a key stepping stone in the careers of a large part of world football stars and will be one of the most important events ever to be hosted in Indian football history. The tournament has a huge worldwide reach and is a golden opportunity to showcase to the world, our cities, culture and the capability of organizing an event meeting the highest standards.

Undoubtedly, the FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup will have a lasting influence on Indian Football and is primed to be a game changer for the Football Vision in India through upgradation of infrastructure, improved game operations standards and refining the overall quality of the game.

Job Description

The LOC General Medical Officer (GMO) will be responsible for managing the medical services for all stakeholder groups of the tournament. The official will work alongside LOC Head of Competitions and Team Services and FIFA’s Medical and Anti-Doping Unit and will be the primary point of contact from the LOC for medical related matters for the tournament.

This position must have a thorough understanding of the medical requirements of International Sports Tournaments/Leagues/Competitions, Sports Delegation, VIP’s, Spectators, and workforce and must be aware of the national health and hygiene protocols to ensure successful implementation of the same along with the tournament guidelines.

The General Medical Officer must work together with the LOC to generate strategies, action plans, protocols, and guidelines to successfully deliver the Medical and Anti-Doping Operations for the tournament.

Main Responsibilities

• Responsible to deliver and management of the overall 24/7 medical and anti-doping services for all stakeholder groups of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 (Participating Member Associations (PMAs), VVIP/VIPs, media, spectators, etc.) at various locations as per the FIFA tournament guidelines for medical and anti-doping.
• Support the LOC in liaising with relevant government authorities and manage & maintain relationships with all the concerned medical facilities and service providers in various host cities of the tournament.
• Lead the identification and appointment process of ‘Designated Hospitals’ in the respective host cities for the tournament.
• Prepare the Medical and Anti-Doping Plan and relevant documents for the tournament.
• Guide, advise and participate in various meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops and trainings, in collaboration with FIFA, in order to provide updates on and communicate relevant tournament-related information and training.
• Provide information to FIFA/PMAs on licensing requirements and import/export regulations for medication and equipment and facilitation of processes to ensure that they fall within the host country national regulations.
• Provide information and support to the PMA Doctors with temporary host country medical professional registration, where necessary.
• Provide support for any other relevant medical and anti-doping matters for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 as and when reasonably required.

Candidate Profile

This position calls for effective leadership by a medical professional with a specialisation in emergency medicine, sports medicine, or another related area, experience in organising and directing medical services at sports/mass gathering events in a leading function and a sound understanding of the basic systems used in local civilian pre-hospital emergency services. The candidate should be respected within the local medical community and have a comprehensive multidisciplinary network. They must have basic knowledge of public health and education, as well as mass gathering medicine, including risk assessment across various settings.

Furthermore, the candidate would be required to have an understanding of the local and national health system and must have an excellent rapport with government and other authorities, as well as the influence to effect change.

The GMO position requires a service- and solution orientated personality with good communication skills, strong project leadership skills and fluency in English and Hindi and any local languages as required.
