Description:
This position is within the Independent Compliance Testing (ICT) team, which performs 2nd line of defense testing across American Express products and portfolio segments. ICT conducts risk-based Compliance Reviews to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and policy impacting diverse American Express products and services. ICT is also responsible for oversight of all regulatory business self-testing (RBST) in the US, and maintaining the company procedure around Compliance Smart Monitoring. This role will be responsible for designing and creating tests using big data, knowledge of regulations, and compliance expertise. This role will support ICT’s annual testing plan, including RBST oversight, and requires a balance of compliance risk management with data and programming skills.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility will be performing compliance testing, and testing design, including ad hoc analysis, using big data from American Express systems
Evaluating the effectiveness and efficacy of existing, compliance-focused automated-testing (smart monitoring KRI builds) by testing SQL, comparing testing results with modified builds, and ensuring the logic and design covers the regulatory or policy requirement
Providing analytical support in the evaluation of various general credit, underwriting, customer management, and compliance-related policies and banking regulations
Building transactional testing capabilities and continuously following up on exceptions generated through this capability
Working with business partners to identify and evaluate means of new automated regulatory control testing
Effectively utilizing and promoting disciplined project methodologies to facilitate the design, implementation, and control of system testing projects
Supporting special projects, compile data and prepare reports for senior management and other colleagues
Maintaining necessary records and files to assure efficient and consistent reporting of compliance efforts
Developing relationships in a complex matrixed structure, reporting up to multiple team leads, and ensuring a consistent collaboration with risk, compliance, and business partners in order to drive a successful RBST oversight program
The position will interface regularly with business partners, examiners/auditors, third-party vendor managers, technology teams, and compliance leaders
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency using SQL across a variety of databases, and comfort and ease in accurately manipulating large datasets
Proficiency with Hive / HQL, Python, Spark, and Jupyter notebooks
Proficiency with dashboarding using sound statistical methods
Familiarity with High Density File Systems (Big Data) such as Hadoop, and the tools required to import, export, optimize memory conditions, and work with big data environments
Experience with command line interface scripting preferred
Strong analytical and project management skills, with a track record of driving results and problem solving
Excellent organization, prioritization and collaboration skills
The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter able to operate on multiple fronts with careful attention to detail
A minimum of 6 years experience working with big data systems, or a bachelor’s degree in computer science or other quantitative field, is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Possess strong interpersonal, leadership and change management skills, as well as strong presentation and communication skills (written and verbal)
Be self-motivated, dependable, adaptable and detail oriented with a proven ability to work independently or within a team environment as required
Have a demonstrated ability to think conceptually, using strong analytical skills
Be able to explore and deduce comprehension of new and unfamiliar datasets
Possess a strong understanding of bank systems and processes, and strong computer knowledge
Demonstrate excellent MS Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint skills
Experience with machine learning algorithms is preferred
CRCM, CIA, CAMS, CPA or related designation/certification is helpful, but not required
