Project Description:

Bechtel are recruiting for individuals to help deliver critical defence and nuclear infrastructure projects in several areas in the UK. You will be part of a team entrusted with the success of what are high-profile and nationally important undertakings, working in a highly collaborative partnership with our client and supply chain colleagues. Our responsibilities span engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, delivered with a focus on safety, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and modern engineering and construction methodologies. Experience of the defence and nuclear sectors can be helpful, but we are equally interested in the ability of candidates to apply broader experiences in a new environment.

Remote working is supported for this role, although candidates must have the ability to obtain security clearance due to the nature of the role. Attendance on site(s) may be required for key meetings and as workload dictates

The Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and driven Construction Manager with proven leadership abilities and management of design through to implementation. The Construction Manager will be assigned to the project Integrated Delivery Team, responsible for managing all aspects related their assigned scope. The Construction Manager should have exceptional stakeholder communication skills, and will supervise the development of budgets and schedules, manage performance, report progress, and initiate action to assure program/project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety and to customer performance expectations.

The position demands demonstrated knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction and other project related activities, including interfaces and interdependencies, and implementation of a variety of management processes to deliver the project in an efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner.

The Construction Manager must be able to understand and manage complex practical, technical, and commercial issues, work constructively with a broad range of stakeholders; leading project teams that are either local or distributed across multiple locations as well as manage contractors. Other aspects of the role will include supporting the growth of our capabilities through building a reputation for excellence, mentoring others, supporting business development and bidding activities.

The Person

You’ll be able to manage client relationships up to senior level, engage constructively with multiple stakeholders and lead delivery teams. Through your work you will also help support and shape the development of future business.

You’ll relish turning your hand to new challenges and will be keen to learn, whilst also wanting to support others within our diverse multi-disciplinary teams. You must also be able to successfully manage the commercial and quality performance of projects and proactively deploy a range of techniques to control delivery, cost, manage risk and change.

In addition to having excellent people and problem-solving skills, you’ll also be able to demonstrate the following:

Grade 28:

• Management of design through to implementation. Detailed understanding on design requirements and linkage to decommissioning technologies
• Degree qualified in Project Management or in a related Engineering or Science based discipline, and/or hold a professional Project or Programme Management related qualification.
• Direct experience of taking full responsibility for project delivery, demonstrating accountability for quality, time, cost, and technical performance parameters agreed with client.
• Experience of leading and directing teams and resources. Able to motivate self and teams, deal with conflict and create a strong delivery culture.
• Direct and undeniable experience of applying a range of project management principles and skills to deliver successful project outcomes on a range of engineering / construction/ technical projects.
• Management of design through to implementation.
• Demonstrate a responsible attitude towards safety and security.
• Experience in the following areas would be of particular interest:

o Nuclear or Energy sector experience including design, construction (including CDM, IOSH, supplier and contractor management).

o Experience working within the Defence industry

o Delivery of complex technical projects and services.

Grade 29:

In additional to the above, you’ll also be able to demonstrate:

• Extensive progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering or architectural design or other relevant types of engineering such as systems start-up, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or engineering/construction firms.
• Understanding and experience working on an EPC project during the construction phase as a Project Engineering Manager/Project Engineer or Project Manager.
• Experience with managing projects and interfacing with Consortium or JV Partners.
• Substantial experience of prior construction or operating plant major maintenance projects experience in an engineering or project management capacity.
• Experience in upskilling engineering/design personnel at all levels.
