The Research & Technology team in Bangalore has an immediate opening for an Associate Materials & Processes Research Engineer – Polymers & Sealants to support the Chemical Technologies team which is part of Materials & Manufacturing Technology Integration team.

Position Responsibilities:

The position will support a) Execution of R&D projects (b) project and lab management activities (c) documenting results of R&D and business support projects, and (d) providing inputs for periodic updates and reviews in the form of progress reports and project summaries, by closely working with teams of chemists / engineers located in India and US.

Basic Qualifications:

M.Sc. (Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/polymer chemistry) or MTech (Chem Engg/Polymer) with typically 4 to 8 years related work experience
Development and evaluation of coatings materials, polymers using different instrumental and analytical techniques.
Strong focus on polymer, organic and Inorganic materials by standard test methodologies including the materials such as polymer additives, sealants, curing agents, adhesives and organic coatings.
Perform lab scale organic synthesis, separation and purification of synthesized organic compound and characterization using different methods of chemical and spectroscopic analysis (FTIR, MS, DSC, GC-MS, NMR etc.). Interpretation of analyzed data.
Undertake sealant analysis like: physical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of specimens, compatibility of peel media & substrate, stability, thermo-mechanical characteristics, micro-structure, tensile strength, cure time etc. of the sealant system.
Apply knowledge in organic chemistry, polymers to solve issues in coating and to improve coating performances.
Substrate preparations before coating application, Coating evaluations, Coating defects identification and performance improvement, root cause analysis.
Documenting results of R&D projects and provide inputs for periodic updates in the form of progress reports, Summary report.
Implement Boeing safety standards while working.
Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

Preferred Skills/Experience:

5+ years of industrial research experience on developing protective coatings systems
Experience in organic synthesis, purification/separation methods and characterization.
Hands on experience on Epoxy, Polyurethanes coatings. Should have knowledge on coating Chemistry, formulations, application and functional testing (Corrosion, Adhesion, Hardness, wear, fatigue, etc.) of these coating systems.
Knowledge on different surface treatment methodologies, pre-treatments and coatings used on aerospace alloys.
Knowledge on different instrumental and analytical techniques used for analysis of coatings, polymers and interpretation of data.

Educational Qualification

M.Sc. (Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/polymer chemistry) or MTech (Chem Engg/Polymer) with typically 4 to 8 years related work experience
