About this role
The bill is our most frequent engagement with our 30 million Consumer and 1.2 million Enterprise customers. Our IT billing applications generate over 221m bills with revenue of £20bn+ p.a. from our Consumer, Enterprise, Openreach and Global customers. Today our CFUs have fragmented and duplicated Billing teams, systems, processes and capabilities. As part of Digital and our Billing transformation strategy we have realigned our billing IT teams, partners and systems into a common Billing and Payment team.
The purpose of the new Digital Billing team is to transform and standardise our disparate billing systems and processes to create lean and agile service capabilities to support the billing and payment of new products and services with a differentiated colleague and Digital first customer experience. In partnership with GBS the Billing IT Team have created a pan BT Billing transformation programme called project Unify to transform our IT and Business cost base and deliver 5 year benefits of £200m. The new team will have brilliant career and skill pathways.
This Job Matters as it provides technical expertise, delivering software solutions that provide business value and meet customer requirements, including necessary designs, documentation, automated testing, deployment and in-life support. The role leads a team transforming and operating technology platforms underpinning critical customer services. Any outage would have a major impact on BT’s ability to trade and service its customers. You will be a supportive platform and lead by example for your team of Software Engineers, who will input into your authoritative technical recommendations to commercial decisions on new and emerging areas, that balance deliverable commitments, unit strategic decisions on software engineering, and operational performance.
The purpose of the Enterprise Billing Tribe Lead is to design, build & operate the Billing IT systems for BT Enterprise & target integration systems. The role works collaboratively with the BT Enterpriser, GBS , CIO, and the B2C Teams to influence scope and deliver Centre of excellence billing functions and improve efficiency, quality and C2M delivery of core billing capabilities.
Billing accuracy is essential to BTs professional and customer reputation. A seamless and simple Billing and payment experience is a customer touch point that can increase nett promoter score and reduce customers reasons to call billing enquiries.

Transformational Leadership: Team, process and technology transformation across FTE, partner and business teams to improve the cost, quality and agility of Consumer Billing solutions.
Story-telling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
Stakeholder Management: Able to develop close relationships with senior customers/vendors/suppliers to facilitate negotiations and manage major escalations.
Technical Knowledge: Can give comprehensive & technical specialised advice on emerging new Technologies. Provide guidance and counsel on complex and unfamiliar situations and leverages other experts to develop solutions.
Hold others to account: Ability to demand high ethical standards and values led behaviours ensuring the same understanding in their team. Able to call out misaligned or poor behaviours
Be agile: Able to lead Leads collaborative and agile ways of working through projects and programmes effectively managing changing priorities.
Experience you would be expected to have
Billing Commercial and Regulatory: The holder of this role needs to be able to directly influence and engage with senior stakeholders in Technology, Consumer Billing, Customer Service and Revenue assurance teams and understand the customer, business , commercial and regulatory context and compliances for all solutions design and delivery
Commercial & Risk Awareness: Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions.
Software Development Concepts: Experience with the use of a wide range of programming concepts including (but not limited to): recursion, multi-threading, memory management, garbage collection. Aware of and has applied a range of algorithms, for example related to sorting and searching.
Portfolio Management: Experience in managing portfolios of operational, environmental, data protection, regulatory and legal.
People Management: Experience in the full employee lifecycle in a Technical environment, including succession planning & performance management.
Change Management: Experience in transforming solution design & delivery to improve quality & cost and being able to identify and prove concepts for future technology.
