About this role

The Digital team in BT Global is at the forefront of driving a complete re-invention of BT Global into a cloud native connectivity as-a-service platform company, which will signal a significant industry shift if done right.

Our initiatives are ambitious, ranging from digitizing our customer journeys, to launching marketplaces and ecosystems, and building disruptive new AI-powered propositions across Cloud, 5G, digital edge, digital work, sustainability, and security, that enable entirely new revenue streams.

We are currently looking for experienced, innovative and influential engineering leaders with deep and relevant technical expertise to help create our team and deliver world class products and experiences. You will work closely with our other cohorts such as product and design to ensure the team is focused on doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right way. Our senior engineering managers have overall ownership on the performance of multiple engineering teams.

You’ll have the following responsibilities

Be accountable for the technical vision, mission, strategy, operational stability, and innovation in the brand new online service domain

Work with state-of-the-art technologies to solve genuine, real-world problems

Hire and develop a diverse, highly accomplished team of engineering managers and engineers

Coach, support, and mentor engineering teams to excellence

Provide strategic and operational oversight for software product development, testability, security, scalability, operability etc.

Drive agile practices that provide a foundation for iterative product development

Collaborate with product and design leaders to build the product strategy and drive execution and continuous improvement

Work closely with business leaders to develop short and long-term strategies

Manage business expectations, resolve conflicts, and keep businesses aligned

Drive innovation, establish new approaches in improving productivity

Establish a metrics-based organisation, develop critical operational metrics and push for continuous improvement

Act as an escalation point for production issues

You’ll have the following skills and experience

We want to emphasise that we don’t expect you to meet all of the below but would love you to have experience in some of these areas.

• Experience hands-on developing, shipping or running production systems and/or software, including high scale microservices/distributed systems running on cloud

• Demonstrable experience directly managing and developing large engineering teams

• Demonstrated ability to work with customers and collaborate across company boundaries

• Strong service delivery experience including architecture, coding, and building online services

• Strong people skills that contribute to an open and collaborative environment

• Experience in communicating the technical vision to a variety of team members

• Experience working with Agile, Lean and Continuous Delivery approaches, such as Continuous Integration, TDD, Infrastructure as Code etc.

• You have excellent knowledge of front-end frameworks (i.e., HTML, CSS, React, Typescript and Node, Micro-frontends)

• You have excellent knowledge of building backend services (i.e., BFF, Java, Python, C)

• You can build integration services (i.e., Service Bus, API Gateway etc.) that integrates with backend applications and enterprise middleware

• You have solid awareness of integrating with modern and legacy enterprise SaaS / on prem applications such as CRM, ERP, Billing, Fulfilment and Service platforms etc.

• You’re experienced with modern, cloud-based MACH architectures and APIs, event-driven and serverless architectures, containers and Kubernetes, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

• You can balance performance and maintainability with product development goals.

• Adept in working with a range of cloud services on AWS and/or Azure.
