Job Description:
JOB PURPOSE: To gain basic experience in the design, development and maintenance of new and existing products and components. JOB RELATED STATISTICS:

JOB DUTIES: This is a beginning assignment for those possessing an accredited engineering degree.

Work is directed by a Supervising Engineer, Staff Engineer or Project Engineer and is normally supported daily by technical personnel, test and evaluation engineers, plant personnel and suppliers.

Assignments are oriented to product concepts, design, development and design layout preparation. Applies gained design and developmental knowledge to the development of new product or maintenance of existing product. Requires an understanding and application of work objectives and the means to achieve them. Plans and directs work of technicians.

Gains exposure to the various methods to conceive product design concepts including preparation of engineering drawings and designs by manual and computer graphics. Gains experience in making design decisions by applying engineering design calculations, analysis and computer simulations. Applies computer applications, integrates computer systems and uses knowledge of the design and development process to assist in the completion of work assignments.

Applies oral and written skills to communicate technical information regarding design concepts and development. This position is exposed to the use and writing of patents.

Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires an accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience. Must have strong problem solving skills, a good mechanical aptitude and good communications skills. Incumbents are normally promoted to Design Engineer – A.
