The Assistant Inspector General Audits (AIGA) reports directly to the Principal Deputy Inspector General (PDIG) and receives only broad direction on fundamental policies and objectives. The AIGA is held responsible and accountable for the effective performance of the Audit Unit, which entails financial and program audits; reviews of internal controls; and audits and investigative projects covering these activities in all organizational entities comprising the District government.
Duties And Responsibilities
The AIGA assesses the effectiveness of of management processes and programs using widely accepted evaluation techniques; directing and guiding analysts while providing technical guidance to complete tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines. The incumbent must have and maintain a reputation for integrity, reliability, trustworthiness, impartiality, and good judgment.
Directs the overall planning, development, execution, management, and completion of audit projects and products. Coordinates and consults with the DAIGA in identifying, prioritizing, and staffing audit projects. Participates in the initiation, conduct, and supervision of auditing activities.
Reviews and approves all audit products submitted by the DAIGA; addresses comments from OIG leadership; and provides technical guidance to ensure responses from management officials of the audited entities are addressed. Supervises the formulation and implementation of audit plans and schedules and issues final reports on time. Develops goals, objectives, and methodologies for routine and special inspections and evaluations of District agencies, numerous, numerous DCG programs, and a variety of significant operational matters to assess efficiency and effectiveness, identify problems, and recommend corrective actions.
Advises on current activities or information that may impact programmatic functions and keeps leadership fully informed on the status of assignments, recommending resolution, particularly in areas related to current projects. Coordinating the assistance required by the independent public accounting firm under contract as the District’s external auditor, acting as liaison representative for audits of the District by Federal Inspectors General and the U.S. General Accounting Office.

Education
Degree: Business Administration or related fields.
Degree: Auditing; Finance, CPA certification, or comparable level of experience desired.
The incumbent must have 7 plus years of management or senior-level leadership experience
Specialized Experience: Experience that is in o directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples Of Specialized Experience
Experience operating programs and the interrelationships among such programs to perform program analysis by developing and evaluating the effectiveness of new or modified program objectives and operations.
Experience in government auditing practices, with a particular emphasis on performance auditing leading the development of high-quality work products. (e.g., audit reports, testimony, correspondence, briefings) that are in conformance with government audit standards. Procedures, and accounting principles; are submitted timely; and are complete, accurate, well-written, and responsive to the goals and objectives/ priorities of the Inspector General, District Agencies, the Counsel of the District of Columbia, the Executive Office of the Mayor, and the public.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS). At-Will. All positions and appointments in the Management Supervisory Service serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Residency Statement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the appointment.
