We are looking for a talented and capable Data Engineering Manager for our Data Products Engineering group that is responsible for building products and platform capabilities to support our business analysts, data scientists and other product and tech teams in EG. The perfect candidate will have strong big data engineering and architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling data teams, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, strong project leadership, ability to deep dive into problems and help solve the problems keeping customer requirements in mind, and a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively create positive impact.
What will you do:
• Provide leadership and management to a team of 4-5 data engineers. You’ll split your time between unblocking your team, vetting their designs, and coaching them to realise their full potential, while also building things yourself.
• Proactively drive the vision for data engineering across the Data Products Engineering pillar, and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision.
• Proactively mentor and grow the team, identify the required skills, hire the best talent, actively manage their performance and help them to grow to their fullest potential.
• Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management and system reliability.
• Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Analysts, Product Managers, and Business Stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver on those needs.
• Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production.
• Manage development of data resources and support new product launches.
• Drive data quality, reliability and consistency of all our data assets.
• Define and manage SLA’s for all data sets and processes running in production.
Who you are:
• 6+ years of experience in Big Data Engineering, Cloud technologies (AWS is preferred), ETL and data management with a good understanding of programming concepts and design principles required to build and deploy efficient data platform capabilities using Spark and other technologies.
• Have at least 2 years of experience tech-leading or managing a team of 3 or more engineers building complex production grade software systems.
• Strong communication skills and experience initiating and driving projects.
• Experience in Agile/Lean software development methodologies such as Scrum.
• You are passionate about technology and can keep up with the latest trends.
• Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time-zones.
