This role is responsible for the leadership, strategic technology direction, and development of the company’s software stack development groups. The position will help establish, and lead global teams with the right balance of autonomy and coordination. This position will help drive ongoing development and growth of the team – both from a capabilities and cultural perspective. The position is responsible for ensuring that the engineering functions are innovative from both a technical and process perspective.
The Manager, Software Engineering would enjoy the challenge of realizing scalable software solutions in industrial settings that lead to improvement in safety outcomes. This individual will bring strong communication, technical drive, persistence, and team building skills necessary to maintain and enhance software engineering development excellence within the organization. We are looking for someone who will be comfortable leading and guiding multi-disciplinary teams in creating products and services. The role will work with, and report to, the Director of Engineering, India Design Center. This individual would be joining a team and organization that embraces open collaboration and teamwork, undertakes agile development, provides opportunities for learning and growth – all the while focused on the mission of eliminating death on the job by 2050.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor our software engineering team to achieve strong organizational performance
Grow and manage individual talent, and advance our technology strategy.
Lead software development, testing, and Agile Scrum functions to build a world class engineering team that develops and delivers high quality industry leading safety software solutions in a timely fashion
Guide team in developing and implementing an architectural strategy and technical roadmap
Ensure platform performance, scalability, and resilience to support the growth of our business
Partner closely with multi-functional teams including product management, sales, customer success regarding development schedules
Implement engineering standard processes to optimize development cycles as well as increase predictability and product quality.
Establish and lead global development centers
Oversee key hiring and talent development programs
Lead team in evaluating new technologies and make recommendations on inclusion into development methodologies, product architecture, and cloud solutions.
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and customer focus and a lively work environment
Continuously elevate the quality and caliber of our R&D organization.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s in Engineering, Computer Science, mathematics, or another engineering-related field
12 years+ experience in relevant software product/solution development experience covering full-stack software technologies
3 years + proven experience as a technical leader or manager, responsible for designing or building out solutions using connected, IoT and cloud technologies
Deep understanding of modern software stack and experience migrating monolithic product/solution environments to a more modern stack
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulately communicate with other engineers and management
3+ years experience in full Software Development Lifecycle and Agile Scrum development methodology
3+ years experience leading Agile Scrum development teams
Experience in working with and leading global development teams and working with global development partners
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Engineering or Computer Science, mathematics, or another related engineering field
Experience with industrial control and/or safety technologies
Demonstrated experience leading software development, deployment and integration of applications for at least one major public cloud provider-Azure, AWS, or GCP or Rackspace- and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
Conversant level of architecture knowledge and breadth that includes familiarity with multi-threaded, multi-tiered, service oriented, event-based, micro-service, and distributed architectures
Experience in SAFe Agile work environments is a strong plus.
Experience with cloud-based business models focused on SaaS or PaaS applications
Experience collaborating with a dispersed team as well as with other company functional teams (i.e. product, marketing, sales, finance, research and development)
