The Partnership Coordinator is a position working directly with the U.S. Forest Service at the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests main office in Gainesville, Georgia. The position supports the Georgia Mountains Children’s Forest Network (CFN), a collective of dynamic partners coming together to make change. As land managers, NGO’s, and individuals with unique tools and resources, CFN together works to expand and build upon successful programming and increase access to public lands for all.

CFN sponsors programs such as Forest For Every Classroom educator workshops that provide skills for place-based service learning, Restoring Ourselves Restoring Our Lands educator training for expanding equity on public lands, NextGen Forest Ambassadors outdoor experiential program for teens, Every Kid Outdoors 4th grade outreach programs, along with myriad classroom visits, career connections, events, festivals, and more!

This 26-week program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. This position requires a detailed oriented and self-motivated individual. The internship will focus on Partnership Coordination and allow for the development of knowledge, skills, and expertise to assist this site.

Duties

• Assist in development and implementation of conservation education programs to a variety of young people, educators and partners
• Provide administrative and practical CFN program support, including youth and parent communication, teacher and administrator communication, creating content for email newsletters, scheduling meetings and developing agendas, arranging logistics for events, etc.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy, including streamlining accounts, creating calendar, bringing pizazz, growing audience, increasing engagements, and deepening usefulness of accounts to both program and users
• Maintain robust and dynamic social media and web presence appropriate for all audiences; ensure accounts and posts are fully accessible to people of all abilities
• Work with local volunteers and non-profit groups to engage in community development activities and delivery of conservation education, recreation and natural resource programs and activities
• Establish and maintain lists of interested stakeholders for the purpose of partnership efforts and community collaboration
• Work with non-profit groups and forest leadership to assist in grants and agreement opportunities
• Organize volunteer events to introduce the community to the work that the Forest Service conducts, career opportunities, and to develop future land stewards
• Use a variety of communications tools to share information with the public regarding the Forest Service and CFN, including web content, videos, factsheets, reports, flyers, infographics and interpretive displays
• Prepare audio-visual programs, according to instructions, for both specific presentations and for broad repeated use
• Organize and maintain CFN photo and video archives
• Support Smokey Bear wildfire prevention outreach programs as needed
• Process applications and conduct site visits to inform reports and proposals
• Additional tasks to support Forest Service and CFN priorities, as needed.

Major Duties

Assignments are designed to provide experience and familiarity with the work of the unit. As an advanced trainee, the incumbent performs a wide variety of duties under the guidance of a higher graded employee associated with the development and implementation of the Forest Partnership Program.

In a developmental capacity, participates in the development, maintenance, and health of the partnership program on the unit. Assists staff across the unit regarding partnership development (partner cultivation, relationship building, and identifying mutual benefits) and implementation (agreement development, monitoring and reporting).

Assists in the development partnership efforts with non-governmental organizations, other government agencies, community organizations, and/or other local or regional stakeholders.

• Uses good writing skills sufficient for writing and editing feature and quasi-technical articles and reports
• Has ability to perform duties in an office setting, as well as assignments which may result in exposure to hazards associated with foot travel to remote forested areas and lifting/carrying event materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Has experience creating and coordinating presentations using various software programs such as video editors, Zoom, PowerPoint, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and AdobeConnect, etc.
• Possesses a Public Relations, Communications, Education, Outdoor Recreation, Business Administration, Environmental Sciences or similar relevant degree.

• Eligibility for Direct Hire Authority upon completion of program requirements

The position is to be filled in early 2024 and will continue full-time for 52 weeks with potential for extension.

Qualifications

• Completion of 2 years at an accredited university, an Associate’s degree, or higher
• US citizenship or permanent residency. RAs must undergo a government background check if selected.
• Participation in US Forest Service Orientation Training scheduled for June 2024

• Up to $2,750 available for Forest Service work travel, orientation, trainings, professional development opportunities that align with RA role and goals
• Direct Hire Authority Eligibility – after completing minimum of 960 hours, DHA status provides special non-competitive hiring status when applying for Forest Service positions
• Option for health insurance coverage during full-term
• *This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed. Independent contractors are required to pay all self-employment taxes (Social Security & Medicare) as well as income tax.
