Responsible for designing, developing, and managing activities for a specific software product or group of products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life. Serves as the central resource with design, process, test, quality, and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Translates user requirements into executable work items that the software engineering team can implement in the product. Has the detailed technical knowledge necessary to explain feature requirements to developers and work with them to deliver these product improvements to end users.
Responsibilities:
Has a thorough understanding of the overall market, competitors, and open source technologies.
Strategically partners with stakeholders to understand needs and priorities.
Translates complex market and stakeholder needs into product requirements and definitions.
Provides thought leadership to stakeholders to guide feature development and prioritization.
Translates user requirements into executable and workable feature items with the software engineering team.
Provides guidance for junior team members on product management strategies.
Tracks and reports key metrics to drive future product developments.
Advises key stakeholders on the portfolio strategy across all phases of the lifecycle.
Knowledge & Skills:
Advanced technical knowledge of complex software systems, including enterprise, middleware, firmware, and embedded systems.
Strong experience in software development, systems engineering, or software product management.
Expert business acumen and knowledge of root cause analysis and problem detection.
Expert skills in cost efficient solution building, financial performance metric creation, and analysis.
Expert team skills and ability to cross functionally drive/influence work through others, ability to mentor and lead teams to achieve results for complex, ambiguous projects.
Scope & Impact:
Impact of decisions can often alter product timelines by multiple quarters.
Impacts efficiencies and delivery times across all software teams, takes responsibility for the quality of deliveries.
Proactively and effectively interacts and partners across different departments within and outside the software engineering function.
