Role Purpose

• To manage and control all aspects of governance and regulatory controls within Trade Services.
• To support INM GTRF Governance Head in implementing business strategies to ensure maximum growth in revenue from existing Trade Customers and attainment of strategic and operating objectives.
• To ensure efficient and productive operations compliant with all regulatory and internal guidelines with respect to increase in complexities in transactions and number of structured deals.
• Meeting RBI and other regulatory bodies including internal regulators to ensure compliance to procedures and conduct regular meetings and trainings with trade customers.
• To enhance productivity, control risk and ensure best practice.
• To review processes, prepare process note, DIBs, follow-up for RBI approvals etc.
• Manage internal and external audits.

Major Challenges

• The key challenges the jobholder faces is achieving the right balance between the various functions required of a mid-office executive; namely that of managing the Export/ Import Trade operations and also proactively managing the relationships with the allocated customer base.
• The jobholder needs to continuously update his/her skills, knowledge and people skills to exhibit a high level of commitment while discharging the desk responsibilities. The jobholder will have to successfully implement the operation recommendations and endeavor to improve productivity by developing a team of multi skilled and motivated staff so as to reduce processing time/cost and improve internal controls.
• The job-holder has to lead and motivate the team towards achieving their revenue targets without comprising on controls and the turnaround time of daily transactions.

Role Context

• Trade Services is a core business for the HSBC Group. At INM, GTRF’s a major contributor towards the revenue and profits of Corporate Banking.
• The Indian Banking industry comprises Public Sector Banks, Local Private Sector Banks and Foreign Banks. All major banks provide Trade Services and we face stiff competition from Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks and Foreign Banks. As such INM GTRF needs to position itself as a leader in Trade Services. In the market, HSBC is regarded as an excellent provider of trade services with a share of over 6% of India’s annual imports and over 4.5% of its annual exports, which is the highest among foreign banks.
• The jobholder derives guidance and authority chiefly from the regulations administered and framed by the RBI under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the Trade Services Functional Instruction Manual (TS FIM). The jobholder operates under the guidelines stipulated by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in its publications such as the UCP600, URC 522 and URR725. The jobholder is expected to exercise broad discretion in carrying out his/her duties and is not required to make reference to his / her superiors on day-to-day matters. Due to the nature of the work, the jobholder is required to work closely with Relationship Managers in both CIB and CMB. The span of control is therefore large and the job content varied and challenging.

Management & Leadership of Regulatory, Compliance & Operational Risk

• Demonstrate leadership on Regulatory & Compliance matters. Maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting in accordance with section B.1.2 of the Group Operations FIM.

Observation of Internal Controls

• Maintain and observe HSBC internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators. Foster a compliance culture and implement Group Compliance Policy by managing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Regional Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, and optimising relations with regulators

Role Dimensions

• The Job holder will be responsible for increasing transaction counts and reduce revenue losses as detailed in My Performance.

• Minimum Graduation or as required for the role, whichever is higher with over 10 years of experience

Eligibility Criteria

• India Bank / INM employees will be eligible to apply to this role after completion of 12 months in the current role/position at the time of application on level transfer and/or promotion.
• Entity Employees (not from India Bank) to be guided by their internal policy on tenure completion in current role at the time of application before applying and share line manager approval once shortlisted
• INM Employees in scope of WPB Career Progression Framework not eligible to apply to roles within the purview of the Framework.
