News reporters and news correspondents (also known as journalists), gather news and information to keep the public informed about latest and important news/events. They obtain their news and information through a number of sources. In this role, they perform first-hand information gathering through on-site investigations, reports, interviews and Q&As with other journalists. To ensure success as a news reporter, you should be knowledgeable about current events, proficient at research, embody ethical principles and maintain professionalism at all times. A top-notch news reporter will have extensive field experience, providing deep, thorough analyses in all news events covered.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Researching on the local community, national, state and international current affairs.
• Conducting research and writing scripts on topics prior to broadcasts.
• Attending and reporting on events that are of interest to the public.
• Interviewing eye-witnesses, authorities and people of interest in news stories.
• Writing, revising scripts and preparing them well to be delivered live.
• Staying in contact with politicians, social activists and other people which provide latest news updates.
• Conducting live interviews with experts who can provide additional information or opinions.
• Gathering, verifying and analyzing news data received from various sources.
• Transcribing and summarizing events for further news purposes.
• Traveling to events and ensuring the proper maintenance, security and care of recording equipment.
• Representing the organization at conferences, press briefings, events and interviews.
• Ensuring a professional appearance, language use and manner throughout reports.
• Editing, publishing or broadcasting news stories.
• Maintaining notes and audio/video recordings related to news stories.
• Staying up-to-date with the latest current events by studying newspapers, attending events etc.
• Complying with the moral code of the journalistic profession.
• Adding at least 10 new members or complainants every month through social media.
• Performing all other necessary related works as per the instructions.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

• Proven work experience as a news reporter or a similar role in the Media Department.
• Comfortable yet professional presence on camera and ability to improvise in a live on-camera setting.
• Ability to understand the news programs process.
• Passion about writing and creating interesting stories.
• Broad knowledge of local, national and international affairs (like political, economic, legislative etc.).
• Ability to maintain a strict level of confidence.
• Exceptional, active social media presence and familiarity with mobile technology.
• Pleasant, friendly disposition and strong interpersonal communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXEPERIENCE

• 10+2, Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications or relevant field.
• Previous office experience may be requested but this can also be entry level position.
• Competent computer skills including MS Office, Photoshop etc.
• Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and data collection.
