In Strategy & Finance, we set our company’s shared strategic vision and facilitate long-term strategic planning and resource allocation. Our team also provides commercial advice and strategic insight; delivers external reporting; and enables the business to effectively manage key strategic, operational, and financial risks.

We’ve recently gone Agile in Strategy & Finance so that we can better prioritize our work, flow the right resources to that work, develop our people, and ultimately support our business stakeholders to deliver better outcomes for our customers and our shareholders. This role sits within our Financial Management Chapter Area, a ~450-strong global team of financial professionals who provide business partnering and FP&A services to missions across the organization

The role with us

As a Senior Finance Analyst, you play a pivotal role in the development of operating plans that support strategic goals. Your strong technical understanding and deep knowledge of financial strategies and objectives are what make you outstanding in your role. You deliver remarkable financial and commercial analysis that has a strong, positive impact on Telstra’s key activities and initiatives. You help tackle complex business issues, by providing analytically informed and quantitatively derived business insights and recommendations into financial status and performance across business units. You are collaborative and enjoy working closely with internal stakeholders to stimulate behaviors that drive value and achieve strategic objectives.

While your role will vary from mission to mission, the capabilities and scope of our senior finance analysts do not.

We are finance professionals who provide a full suite of business partnering and FP&A services including but not limited to financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, strategic partnering, management reporting, financial analysis, performance commentary, and accounting advice.

We currently flow to over 40 missions which can be broadly categorised under eight groups:

• Business
• Domestic
• International
• Finance
• and GBS Finance
• ServeCo & CU Finance

This is how you’ll bring the purpose of your role to life:

• enterprise-wide compliance with accounting policies and standards to deliver best practice maintenance of financial accounts and timely and accurate reporting to enable Telstra to successfully fulfill financial reporting obligations
• accounting analyses, and generate insights from financial statements and reports to recommend improvements and guide strategic business decisions to improve financial and operational performance
• market intelligence to effectively communicate the key factors and trends impacting financial and operational performance and support your portfolio to make sound decisions based on the potential to generate growth that considers short- and long-term commercial trade-offs
• the coordination, development, and maintenance of budgeting and forecasting systems, including the identification of interdependencies across business functions to drive effective investment and financing decisions
• and address the root cause of data and reporting quality issues to drive improvements in the identification and delivery of financial information across Telstra
• highly technical or specialized financial information into useful insights in a succinct written report format for senior stakeholders, including the Board and Executives, to ensure the content meets the intended purpose and needs of the audience
• your strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders to provide valuable advice and collaborate to create strategies that achieve shared financial goals and resolve problems or escalated issues within your portfolio
• and implement stakeholder engagement plans to support the Corporate Accounting team in managing and maintaining key relationships, and creating unbeatable experiences for stakeholders to gain their support and deliver exceptional outcomes

To be successful in the role, you should have:

• or CPA qualification
• minimum 5 years of proven experience in Finance management
• experience in Commercial Accounting and Forecasting with proven expertise in Technical and Statutory accounting
• leadership skills with a genuine commitment to building capabilities
• critical thinking and analytical skills with high attention to details
• demonstration of a growth mindset with tenacity for problem-solving and willingness to seek information and appropriately challenge the status quo
