In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases. These programs are funded by USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), MSD for Mothers and other donors.
In Women’s Cancer, Jhpiego India provides end-to-end solutions for ensuring cervical cancer elimination and breast cancer control through an universal health coverage approach by ensuring a seamless continuum of care that provides quality health care services from health awareness, primary prevention through immunization, screening, diagnosis, treatment, palliative care and survivorship.
The position will provide strategic leadership and bear primary responsibility for conceptualizing, planning, designing, coordination, implementation, management, supervision, and monitoring to all projects dealing with Women’s Cancer in Jhpiego India, which require his/her inputs. The Advisor will be expected to work in close coordination with program and other directors at India Country Office (ICO) and with the women cancer experts at our headquarters. The Advisor will have strategic leadership to guide, provide technical oversight on evidence-based programming, focusing on state-of-the-art innovative interventions for Women’s Cancer; and coordinate with program, MER, other unit heads at ICO and concerned experts at Jhpiego headquarter.
The advisor will develop and maintain relationships with governmental and non-governmental agencies to facilitate and promote the work of Jhpiego in India. The Advisor will work closely with partners and other stakeholders involved in Jhpiego programs to ensure synergies and sustained growth in this area.
Advocate for and promote a supportive policy environment for cancer care and control with focus on women’s cancer. This involves collaborating with senior host country government counterparts, high-level policymakers, researchers, media, journalists, academics, pharmaceutical companies, and international forums like IARC.
Provide strategic vision and leadership to support the Cervical Cancer Elimination goals for India including collaboration with development partners, GOI, private sector, women organizations and civil society partners. Develop, execute and own an operational and engagement strategy for the entire community including donors, enterprises, investors, corporates, mentors, advisors, and domain
Provide guidance and technical oversight to private sector engagement initiatives, including market shaping approaches and enterprise-based models for women’s cancer.
Participate in technical meetings on Women Cancer issues and liaise with other donors, development partners, academicians, Indian and international technical experts and officials on relevant technical matters.
Advise on impact evaluation including incubator performance, technical impact, investment related impact and any other relevant parameters
In collaboration with the M&E team, reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the effectiveness of women’s cancer activities and provides recommendations for improvements.
Abilities/Skills:
Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated experience utilizing innovation to effectuate disruptive change in health care systems in India
Exemplary record of operationalizing a vision and strategy in resource-constrained country
Demonstrated understanding of the landscape of social
Provide technical leadership for Cancer Care and Control and build the technical capacity of the team
Ability to provide technical support to health care providers and district health management teams by improving skills and transforming attitudes around cancer control services through training and mentorship
Deep understanding of the Indian health systems and country-specific barriers limiting effective healthcare
Experience with human-centered design and its application to global health programming – from products and services to program and business-model design.
In-depth understanding of global health innovation needs and effective strategies for advancing local innovation and entrepreneurial ventures.
Ability to collaborate with others at all levels of the organization as well as vendors
Deep understanding of evolving international health funding priorities, the key players, technical state-of-the-art thinking and priorities, and program development roles and opportunities
Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize information, apply it to new and unfamiliar contexts, and to develop priorities, solutions, and strategies to address issues and gaps.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with people of varied professional, and educational backgrounds.
Entrepreneurial and results-oriented mindset, comfortable with uncertainty, willing to take calculated risks, and proven ability to deliver results.
Ability to provide oversight and manage implementation research.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
Willingness to travel to the district (up to 20% of the time)
Qualifications/Knowledge:
Advanced degree in public health, medicine, business or related field with relevant experience of at least 12 years. At least 5 years of Managerial experience in designing / implementing cancer control programs and innovation initiatives.
Must have in-depth professional-level knowledge of public health and development principles, concepts, and practices, especially as they relate to managing cancer care and control programming in India.
