Objective:

Over 35% of Kemin’s worldwide sales are from products that use molecules derived from plants as the primary active ingredients. Kemin’s Specialty Crops program is a corporate strategic initiative to develop unique botanical sources of novel functional molecules for business unit product development. Xanthophyll Marigolds are an important strategic crop for Kemin, and a sophisticated breeding program and hybrid testing has been established.

New marigold hybrid evaluation trial locations will be established in Belgaum and Hassan/Mysore (Karnataka), India (commercial Marigold production locations of AVT growers) to facilitate Stage-3 Advanced trials and Pre-Precommercial hybrid testing. . Field Technicians will play an important role in establishing and conducting grower trial farm network and executing hybrid testing and evaluation as part of the marigold breeding and advancement program. The positions will report to the SCI Research Farm Manager,India, in Kemin Industries’ Specialty Crop Improvement (SCI) Unit.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and communicate with growers for trial layout and other specifications.

• Execute and manage replicated plot trials at various grower locations from planting to final harvesting for up to 50 acres in cooperation with the Research Farm Manager including crop nutrition, pest control, irrigation and other required data collection.

• Coordinate and frequently update progress of experimental trials with SCI team to generate good quality and statistically robust data as well as sample collection.

• Responsible for the operational work in the field trials to grow the crop successfully and with the goal to maximize crop output or research output.

• Ensure trial planting and transplanting operations executed as per trial guidelines at each growing location. Ensure trials are maintained with target plant population throughout the growing season, grow healthy plants, record plant phenotypical data, maintain harvest data and update to the team.

• Find technical solutions and improvements in the daily work ensuring efficient running of all the hybrid trials. Assist Research Farm manager in data and sample collection throughout the crop period.

• Work closely with the SCI research farm team at Bengaluru.

Qualifications

+ + Bachelors with experience; diploma in Agriculture/horticulture; or Degree in agriculture or horticulture or a related field of expertise.

• High technical knowledge of crops and good practical agricultural experience.

• Good knowledge of progressive grower network and farm related activities.

• Experience in executing field trial protocols with external growers
