Key responsibilities

Approve shipments of Cargoes that can be shipped as Non-Dangerous Goods as per the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

Resolve queries via emails/telephone calls to identify potentially dangerous chemicals and substances, i.e. self-reactive, flammable, poisonous as per IMDG classes 1-9.

Coordinate dangerous cargo approvals with VSA partners (external) to facilitate loadings of hazardous cargo on partner vessels.

Consistently meet and exceed targets set for the team

Decision Making Authority/Approval/Authorization Level:
The Approver is authorized to approve Dangerous cargo bookings according to Maersk Line In House Rules and the IMDG Code.

Contact with others:
a) Internal: Customer Service, Stowage coordinators, GSC DG teams, Ship Management, Vessels, Local operations centers, Special Cargo etc.

b) External: VSA partners, Ports and terminals

We are looking for

A genuine interest in dangerous Cargo shipment and developing a career within dangerous cargo management

• Manage the complexity of approving dangerous cargo
• Cross referencing rules in international manuals
• Provide suggestions to improve efficiencies and to do system enhancements
• Cross examine chemical terms and terminology
• Preference would be 3 years’ experience of handling dangerous goods shipment.
• Graduate with general systems knowledge and good communication skills is preferred. A background in shipping is a must.
• General awareness of the practical side of operations
• Good knowledge of Liner Operations systems and GCSS
• Sound Knowledge of IMDG/IATA
• Awareness about Scanning / Cargo Petrol
• Good Stakeholder Management
• Preferable if done any HAZ courses
