• The Principal Software Engineer will be a member of the Engineering RD team working on the software development and support of medical devices. Works closely with other members of the engineering staff to provide technical solutions to engineering problems.

• The Principal Software Engineer will participate in the creation of design documentation, software code, software unit test plans, and other project artifacts.

A Day in the Life

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will join a team of talented and driven engineers driving the development and commercialization of Medtronics next-generation Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) platform. You will have the unique opportunity to analyze the most exciting anomalies and critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities and build new software frameworksto mitigate these risks for the underlying robotic platform. This is a great role that will enable you to gain a strong knowledge of different software components across the robotic system.

You will:

• Design and develop C++ frameworks that ensure a robust, safe and secure embedded real-time platform software.

• Participate in software requirements analysis and verification plan execution.

• Perform required documentation- of software and test design, tools, known anomalies and cybersecurity vulnerabilities- in compliance with FDA quality standards.

• Participate in code and design reviews, risk assessment and mitigation efforts.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Qualifications Education: A bachelors degreeinin Computer Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent degreeand 12-18 years of professional work experience required. Advanced degree preferred. Basic:

• Experience in an object-oriented language advanced C++/C#.

• Experience in design patterns, SOLID principles and advanced programming techniques.

• Experiencewith common development tools: environments, compilers, build management software, debugging and source control tools, etc.

• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to build consensus and establish common goals.

• An insatiable intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn quickly in a complex space.

• Preferred :

• Experience with UNIX/Linux and shell scripting strongly preferred.

• Proficiency in Python is strongly preferred.

• Experience with one or more: TDD, Unit Test, continuous integration and delivery.

• Experience with distributed real-time software.

• Experience with data engineering is a plus.

• Experience performing risk management analysis of software (e.g. SW FMEA).

• Familiarity with real-time operating systems such as QNX.

• Familiarity with RTI DDS and other common networking protocols.

• Familiarity with Agile development methodology.
