A new team being built in Azure AI in collaboration with Microsoft research, is looking for a Software Development Engineer to work on the core low-level infrastructure for all AI workloads in Azure. We are looking for an engineer with a passion to improve the state of the art. The work involves solving low-level systems problems such as GPU state and memory management, high-performance distributed storage, and high-speed networking optimizations. It is a mix of cutting-edge research, and simultaneously high-visibility product impact.

Execution of Research Agendas
- Serves as a top industry/academic leader and accomplished expert in a broad area of research (e.g., Machine Learning [ML], Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Statistical Modeling) or gains unique knowledge in a specific area of research. Understands the corresponding literature, applicable research techniques, and business and academic context.
- Identifies and articulates a clear long-term research agenda that is academically novel and may incorporate current or anticipated business priorities.
- Identifies gaps and determines which state-of-the-art insights, tools, technologies, or methods to incorporate into research pipelines to ensure quality, scientific rigor, and ethical best practices. Supports the development and implementation of new or modified tools, technologies, and methods within a research pipeline; and applies deep subject matter expert knowledge around a broad array of specialized tools/methods to support planning for research projects.
- Leads a collaborative research effort (possibly spanning multiple teams/Universities inside and outside of Microsoft) to advance a long-term research agenda through multiple projects, yielding new algorithms, prototypes, theories, tools, methods, analyses, insights, or collections of data in one or more subareas or a broad area of research to create societal impact.
Contributes to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and/or data/information collection by providing updates and suggestions around internal best practices. Ensures the development and deployment of computing technologies that uphold trustworthiness, robustness, privacy, values, and ethical considerations.
