The Azure Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) team is building a next-generation data protection and resiliency platform. With data volumes crossing into exabytes, we’re at the cutting edge of distributed storage and cloud resiliency. Our mission is to ensure every workload — VMs, containers, databases, file servers, blobs, and PaaS services — can be protected, restored, and trusted by our customers. We’re designing for massive scale with a multitenant, microservices-based architecture and generalized data store. What your journey will look like – In your first few months, you’ll dive deep into high-scale distributed storage systems, learning from some of the best engineers in the industry. You’ll own services end-to-end — designing, coding, testing, deploying, and operating — while seeing firsthand how your work runs in production. You’ll partner with teams across Azure to deliver seamless integrations and ensure data resiliency across the platform. Every sprint, you’ll tackle new challenges: making services faster, more durable, more secure, and more cost-efficient. Responsibilities

• Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for an area for our highly available, globally distributed services.
• Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable to solve complex engineering challenges in data management, performance, durability, scale, and security and resiliency.
• Collaborate with engineers across Azure to deliver seamless data resiliency integrations. Continuously improve reliability, cost efficiency, and customer experience.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
• Review current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• object-oriented programming or managed code (e.g., C#, Java, C++, Go, or similar).
• 1+ years of professional software engineering experience in designing, building, and testing services or large-scale systems.

Other Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
• OR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
• OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• 1+ years experience designing, building, and testing services or large-scale systems using object-oriented programming or managed code (e.g., C#, Java, C++, Go, or similar).
• Includes experience with cloud services or distributed computing.
• Familiarity with Representational State Transfer (REST)-based service design and integrations across complex ecosystems.
• 1+ year experience participating in live-site accountability, including incident response and system reliability practices.
