The Mitra Jaya Group originated in 1981 with the founding of PT. Sumber Mitra Jaya, popularly known as SMJ. When Dato Drs. K. Gowindasamy started this company, the fledgling SMJ was faced with many challenges to establish itself in the market place due to limited resources. In fact, its first contract a landfill project in Jakarta was completed successfully using borrowed trucks. However, the success of that first project quickly led to a series of larger and more successful contracts. SMJ went on to complete various projects in Jakarta and, subsequently, in West Java, Central Java, and East Java. After that, it started spreading its wings to other parts of Indonesia. In 1987, SMJ was then appointed as a trusted partner of the Department of Public Works of DKI Jakarta and the Directorate General of Bina Marga.

From the seeds of SMJs sole venture, Mitra Jaya Group was born. The Mitra Jaya Group has now grown into a large corporation that operate in several sectors. Having built a solid reputation as a reliable partner in infrastructure construction, mining industry, manufacturing, agriculture in Indonesia, Mitra Jaya Group has now also entered two new areas of the industry, Pharmaceuticals and Property, ushering in a new era of growth and development.

Having portfolio in several countries and territories across Asia Pacific, Mitra Jaya Group continues to grow, delivering sustainable value to our stakeholders through excellency operational, high performance standards and good corporate governance. Mitra Jaya Group also enjoys the distinction of having been awarded a Grade 7 classification, the highest level awarded to road and bridge contractors by the Directorate General of Bina Marga, by the Department of Public Works, and recently also by LPJK (Lembaga Pengembangan Jasa Konstruksi), a wholly independent organization.

Our founder, Mr. Gowindasamy, which still actively conducting business for Mitra Jaya Group today, also focuses on philanthropic activities in various countries. In Indonesia, Mr. Gowindasamy has set up a charitable foundation, Yayasan Saroja Ammal Sejahtera, to donate to various causes. One of them is to support free education in Medan for the under-privileged, as well as contributing sizable donations for some religious practices. Additionally, he has also contributed to renovation of temples in Malaysia and India.
