Job Description

As a Data Scientist, you will work as part of a specialized team researching data intensive products for investment management industry. Most of the research is integrated to Morningstar’s core products (Direct, Advisor Workstation etc.) and teams such as Morningstar Investment Management, Morningstar Indexes, Credit Ratings, Pitchbook etc. We are looking for an individual who possesses strong technical skills and loves to work on the latest in AI and ML technologies. An ideal candidate would be someone who enjoys working with technical teams on complex problems and who is always looking to improve themselves and others around them. This position reports to Manager of Quantitative Research team. Responsibilities :

• Support methodology development, Quant Model builds & enhancements for core Morningstar Quant products such as Optimizer
• Drive independent research, publish research papers in asset allocation analysis, portfolio optimization, risk model, ESG, NLP factor research, news sentiment analysis.
• Leverage new structured and unstructured datasets to build new Quant frameworks that would help investors in informed decision making and creation of optimized portfolios.
• Assisting development of Analytics-based solutions to scale information ingestion, storage, computation (training/inference), data and model validation.
• Support variety of Data Science initiatives for the organization including Portfolio Optimization and NLP initiatives such as Explainable AI, Conversational AI, Sentiment & Thematic Factors, Nowcasting etc.

Requirements :

• B.E./B.Tech. degree in engineering or computer science.
• 1 to 2 years of data science background/experience in an Investment Bank or Financial Research firm with a focus on the latest in technology, investment research analysis, asset allocation, NLP and/or portfolio construction.
• Good experience in developing Finance/ Statistics based applications.
• Experience working in Agile model and knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle.
• Knowledge of statistical models (e.g. Regression, forecasting, optimization, etc.).
• Working knowledge of AWS tools such as Athena, EMR, Lambda, etc. is preferred.
