The Role: Associate Director – Equity Markets

The Location: Mumbai
The Team: The candidate will be part of the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG) which is responsible for the maintenance and calculation of S&P Dow Jones Indices
The Impact: The Associate Director will lead the Ex-Americas team responsible for the maintenance and coverage of S&P Dow Jones Indices active companies and stocks in the region with a focus on market research and complex corporate events

You will work collaboratively with teams across the globe and must be able to analyze and implement complex events that impact our indices and solve non-routine problems on an on-going basis
Responsibilities:
Oversee team of analysts working on Research & analysis of market driven events. Closely track announced corporate actions, analyze how these actions will affect indices and decide on strategies to respond to corporate actions. Guide and influence other Index Managers or Market Managers regarding how a complex corporate action should be treated in a particular index. Consult & communicate with global teams on adjustments to indices resulting from corporate actions
Ensure processes and workflows are streamlined and effective, events are being tracked and researched thoroughly ensuring seamless implementation in our indices. Identify areas of improvement in processes, design solutions and implement them with appropriate training and communication
Ensure high standards of quality are met. Lead the QA process for the team to review any errors and enhance processes accordingly. Participate in the global QC processes
Be a subject matter expert and a point of escalation for analysts in dealing with all manner of issues arising on a daily basis
Be able to train both new and existing employees in order to ensure best practices within the team
Lead and coordinate the effort of team in ad-hoc projects and company initiatives.
Talent Management for the team, with responsibility for staff performance, development and recruitment.
Take a lead role in index committees and methodology reviews to ensure indices are maintained in accordance with SPDJI standards.
Maintain close customer focus with internal clients on a daily basis by communicating changes in stock data and addressing client data requests as well as by proactively communicating any major issues to Senior Management
Develop and maintain relationships with key members of other groups within S&P Dow Jones Index Services and across other departments, particularly the technology group, in order to further enhance system capabilities and improve processes and work flows
Qualifications:
A demonstrable understanding of global financial markets
Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance strongly preferred
Experience with corporate action research and analysis. Must be proficient in interpreting and analyzing corporate filings and related documents to be able to apply that analysis to the data inputs underlying S&P DJI Indices
5-8 years of relevant experience working with indices/ corporate actions is required. Direct experience at an index provider and/or financial institution focused on tracking/replication or portfolio management is a plus
Strong understanding of how indices are used, the impact of different methodologies, corporate event on both indices and financial portfolios
Superior computer skills in Excel, Word and related applications. Access, VBA, SQL would be an advantage
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate work done by multiple people and / or groups
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. Further language skills would be considered an advantage
Excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. The projects involve requirements gathering, analytical thinking, compilation of data, and documentation
