JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of the position

To play a lead role supporting the sector head to originate and execute transactions across multiple SMBC products in the Power, Utilities and Infrastructure sector. The PUI team provides lending and advisory solutions across various assets including Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Hydro, Roads and Airports, with increasing focus on ESG related business and energy transition. To tap into the opportunities that India presents, there is a need to recruit a senior sector specialist on the ground with a focused mandate to grow the PUI business by expanding client base and increasing penetration at existing clients.

Power, Utilities and Infrastructure (PUI) is a very active sector in India with significant investment requirement.

Some indications below:

* India is targeting renewables capacity of 500 GW by 2030 which translates to additional investment requirement of about USD [250-300] billion.

* Government is seeking to raise about USD[12] bn from road privatization via “Toll-Operate-Transfer” (TOT) model in the next 5 years.

* In addition to the above, there are opportunities in the existing infrastructure assets as well for refinancings, acquisition financings, etc.

* The significant activity in the PUl space presents opportunities for SMBC across multiple products (loans, bonds, M&A, derivatives, etc).

* There is a need for greater penetration with clients to increase ancillary business.

* SMBC started India PUI business with our international relationships and are now in the process of onboarding more domestic names.

Job Responsibilities

Deal origination:

* Maintain close relationship with clients in India and develop new relationships

* Proactively engage with clients to originate business across the entire product suite of the bank

* Prepare financial proposals including term sheets and/or presentations

* Identity and monitor market developments and opportunities Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders (banks, advisors, legal firms etc.)

Deal execution:

* Guide / support various product teams in (i) the preparation of presentations / credit papers, (ii) documentation, (iii) negotiations, etc.

* Support in discussions with external advisor / counsel

* Review financial models and guide junior staff on the same

* Guide junior members in origination and execution process
