The Policy and Research Manager will develop and lead a comprehensive policy and research strategy for the Government Relations vertical that strongly supports Teach For India’s advocacy initiatives, both regionally and nationally. S/He will track and monitor major policy shifts in the education sector, research issues gaining public interest, and liaise with government representatives / think tanks / other policy institutes to support our regions in reducing policy barriers that impede progress towards educational equity. S/he will help strengthen the foundation for the vertical and will be responsible for executing the following responsibilities:
As a National Policy Leader in the organization (80%)
Stay current and conversant on developments in public policy, legislation, and new government schemes that affect the TFI community
Assess various options and risks associated with taking a policy stance in a specific area (e.g. reopening schools); implement recommended path and adjust messaging as needed
Work collaboratively with other verticals to launch public petitions on areas of interest to our community; amplify our message and garner support from stakeholders
Establish, maintain, and/or strengthen relationships with politicians, public officials, policy think tanks, and other policy makers/institutes; collaborate on research initiatives where applicable
Research and author high-quality white papers, open letters, and policy briefs for a wide range of stakeholders
As a Regional Expert on advocacy issues [20%]
Understand regional requirements and design effective policy briefs to address local ed-related challenges
Assist regional teams in designing and implementing pilots focused on key policy issues (e.g. accelerate adoption of NEP, improve adherence to child protection policies)
Establish standard processes for data collection and analysis to ensure consistency and quality across the regions
Help regional teams monitor initiatives, collect data, and track impact from various small scale pilots
Provide strategic advice and inputs to the development of regional roadmaps

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations
2-5 years of work experience
Experience in writing detailed white papers, research reports, memos or policy briefs
Clear, concise, and structured verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated track record or interest in public policy and/or advocacy
Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to solve complex programmatic challenges
Experience in driving operations in high pressure, goal driven environments
Experience of having collaborated effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups
Proficient in MS Office/Google Suite, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
