Duties
Basic Function of the Position: The Librarian (Cataloging) position is located in The American Center, Library of Congress Office, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi. Under the supervision of the Chief of the Cataloging Division who rates the incumbent and the Deputy Field Director who reviews the incumbent’s performance. The incumbent will serve as an expert in cataloging South Asian materials for the Library of Congress (LC), s/he will work independently in cataloging materials in all formats and all subjects, creating original whole-book catalog records and authority records online in accordance with technical standards and rules established by international library organizations and LC. S/he will be the selection expert in efficient and cost-effective development of the South Asian collections of the Library of Congress as well as 50 plus American, Canadian, and British libraries which participate in the South Asia Cooperative Acquisitions program (SACAP). S/he needs to ensure to comprehensively acquire in scope materials for the LC and SACAP collections, yet selectively and in-depth, a wide variety of publications in the assigned language(s) and area(s) according to the established collection development policies of the Library of Congress and the changing needs of SACAP participating libraries. The incumbent will also perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:
The position requires successful completion of Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or History or Literature or Sociology or Political Science or Religious Studies.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in New Delhi, India may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time the conditional offer letter is issued by the HR Office.
