VMware Hiring for Kubernetes SaaS Platform Engineer – Opportunity for Working Remotely at Bangalore, India Full Time

We are looking for a talented Software/Platform Engineer to join our team whereby you will help provide services to VMware’s next generation cloud infrastructure platform, as part of a passionate, hard-working and culturally diverse team.

VMware’s globally distributed infrastructure platform is built using a combination of industry-standard open-source solutions and internally developed applications and is backed by the Kubernetes eco-system running on public cloud providers. The platform powers VMware’s largest SaaS products in production, including VMware Cloud on AWS. The Software Engineering team is responsible for building compelling, value add services on top of Kubernetes to internal VMware engineering teams

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

We aim to provide the most robust, secure, compliant and compelling turn key solution running on a Kubernetes platform running in some unique environments. We need someone who can design, develop and collaborate well across the team spanning Software Engineering, Architecture, Site Reliability Engineering, Security and Compliance and work with our internal engineering customers to achieve our business goals.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• You will develop a good understanding of the culture, domain, product, mission, processes and to contribute actively and add value to the setup.

• You will participate in the software development lifecycle to support long term maintainability and extensibility of code, as well as high quality and well-documented code in an automated CI and Test environment.

• You will ensure that all designs are clearly documented and adhere to our platform agreed upon SLO’s, compliance and security constraints.

• You will be expected to participate in product roadmap planning

• Primarily development will be golang and a strong understanding of Kubernetes, Operators and Custom Resource Definitions is a must have.

• Participate as an on-call rotation engineer

Key Skills:

• Contribute to infrastructure related software engineering projects

• Help ensure SaaS Service platform has 99.99% uptime

• Conduct periodic on call duties as needed on a regular scheme basis.

• Lead design and code reviews with a major focus on best user experience, scalability and future expansion

• Experience in OpenSource contributions

Required Skills:

• BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

• 10+ years of Engineering Experience with a proven track record of delivering highly available and scalable systems

• Strong knowledge in container platforms (Kubernetes and Docker) for large scale deployment of microservices

• Strong understanding of code versioning tools like Git,Gitlab/Github

• Strong experience mainly in Golang, Python and bash

• Track record in large-scale system software development.

• Best practices with test driven development, unit/integration testing, code coverage, strong documentation talent including functional designs, comments/readme’s, how-to’s/runbooks etc

• Strong with public cloud architecture AWS/Azure/Google Cloud

• Excellent communication skills essential as this is truly a global team

Tom joined VMware as part of the DynamicOps acquisition in late 2012 where he was the technical founder. His experience comes from working in systems engineering, as a technical lead, and managing Engineering teams.
