Group Description (End User Computing EUC – Enterprise Desktop Products R&D team)

Today’s workplace is growing increasingly mobile. End-users need access to their desktops and corporate information from various devices and locations. For IT, the delivery, management and security of corporate desktops, applications and data is an exceedingly complex challenge. Our End-User Computing team is building the next generation platform for enabling the mobile, modern workforce. The Horizon family of products was developed around the vision that users now need a virtual workspace – a central hub for accessing all their desktops, business applications, services and files.

Windows desktops have been a mainstay of the enterprise for 25 years, but a fundamental shift is now underway affecting the way enterprise customers access desktops, applications, and data. This shift is driven by two large-scale trends: cloud computing, and the emergence of personal Internet-connected devices to replace PCs. Desktops, apps, and data should be accessible from any device, anywhere, transparently. VMware Horizon (View), as the leading implementation of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, is a key enabler for the desktop of the future as well as application delivery. VMware View is the solution that centralizes desktops in the datacenter and makes them available remotely from multiple endpoint devices.

VMware Horizon DaaS is a SaaS solution for delivering virtual desktop remotely. The Horizon DaaS engineering team is developing a software platform that enables enterprises to consume desktops from the cloud in an as-a-service model.

The DevOps engineer will be a key member of the Horizon Cloud Services team . Horizon Cloud Service platform includes Common cloud services, Multi-cloud Workflows with Next-Generation Desktop and Application Delivery Platform that provide capabilities to Horizon Cloud to deliver Desktops and Applications in a flexible, fast, and personalized manner from any of the public clouds.

You will work cross functionally with architecture, core development, QE, product management to ensure alignment, awareness, and consistency throughout the organization. The role requires familiarity with current DevOps practices including CI/CD, automation, infrastructure orchestration, and cloud service delivery. The ideal candidate has a background in software development with strong operational discipline. You must be a highly motivated individual who is willing to take on challenging initiatives and is capable of working both independently and with others as a team. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer with a passion to drive automation at all stages of software development, release, operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain the CI/CD infrastructure and tools to make feature deliveries to Horizon Cloud Solutions.

• Responsible for deploying microservices and core infrastructure to support Horizon Cloud Solution

• Design and Develop the test automation around different product features to validate the builds in the CI/CD pipeline

• Work closely with development teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance and operability in mind.

• Implement tools/automate processes to reduce overall time and increase team efficacy.

Requirements and preferred skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent

• 2-4 years’ experience working in fields of in the fields of SRE, DevOps or production engineering in Enterprise grade software application development environment

• 1-2 years of experience with scripting language such as Python, Shell, Groovy etc.(Proficiency in scripting languages is must )

• Would be nice to have experience in managing multi-region distributed SaaS services involving technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, service mesh, ELK, Kafka, distributed cache, NoSQL DB’s

• Good understanding of network technology and concepts (TCP/UDP, SSL/Certificates, HTTP, NAT, DNS etc.)

• Experience on using tools like Git, Gerrit, Jenkins is must.

• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Fabric, Puppet or SaltStack

• Ability to lead and mentor other engineers in the team for DevOps best practices

• Team player who can jump in and use his or her broad experience to recommend and implement best practices in Devops

• Ability to effectively interface and communicate with engineering teams and stakeholders
