What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
We need someone who can maintain parity between both legacy and cloud-based environments to ensure that monitoring requirements are met from both a security and operational perspective. This involves participating in POCs with vendors, deployment, and maintenance of hardware worldwide, understanding the network layers to know what we monitor and why, and being involved with the automation team to reduce manual operations.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Within the first month, finish training and familiarizing oneself with the current infrastructure.
Within 3 months, deploy scheduled hardware refreshes scheduled globally to make sure capacity is available for monitoring.
Within 6 months establish monitoring requirements for one major region and automated triage/remediation.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
POC, Plan, implement, upgrade, and monitor security measures related to computer networks and software testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation (IDS, IPS, AV, HIPS, FW, UEBA, SIEM, Sandboxing).
Knowledge of hardware deployment and management ranging from servers to network gear.
Collaborate with Real Estate and Workplace teams around the world to ensure Infosec standards are met at new or refreshing sites.
Proficiency with the OSI model and related technologies.
Develop plans, implement, and monitor systems and procedures to effectively secure company information, infrastructure, intellectual property, and users against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.
Work autonomously in an area of specialization to analyze internal security and provide relevant information to internal and external customers, suppliers, and partners.
Implement and design Intrusion Monitoring (IDS/HIDS) to monitor use of files and regulate access to safeguard information.
In connection with the above duties, apply knowledge and/or skills of Python and Shell Scripting focused on automation Infrastructure life cycle management (inventory, provisioning, patching/updates, monitoring, decommissioning).
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This role will be reporting to the Manager of Network Security, Security Engineering. Having started in the SOC and moving through engineering it has become clear in recent years that traditional SOC methodologies will not carry us forward into cloud and SaaS based operations. Analysts cannot keep up with the millions of events in need of monitoring and thus a shift towards automation and SOAR capabilities are essential.
The team’s philosophy is one of freedom and creativity. This allows for an environment where everyone can bring their angle to issues and projects and fosters innovation within the team. Open discussion and deliberation are encouraged as is constant feedback and constructive criticism.
The team is comprised of 4 individuals: 3 developers, and 1 network specialist who maintain close relationships with our SOC and other functional teams across the company. The team provides flexible hours, scheduling to cover each other’s needs, and encourages open communication withing the team and with management.
