The VMware Cloud Automation team is looking for an exceptional and highly motivated Software Engineer to help drive the evolution of our next-generation Cloud Management Platform.

We are a pivotal part of the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC), and our software manages machines and applications in hybrid cloud environments. Our product, vRealize Automation, is used by Fortune 500 companies to manage hundreds of thousands of virtual machines in public and private clouds.

You will get to work on meaningful problems, develop products for cloud-scale, provide highly- performant interfaces to large data sets, tackle exciting opportunities, and implement resilient systems. Our products are undergoing rapid change, and most of your work will be on new code using some of the most current frameworks and libraries.

This position requires current hands-on experience in the design and development of an enterprise-grade product/services/features, of moderate to high complexity, with full responsibility for delivering software with high quality.

Success in the Role:

What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• You will be expected to produce software designs (Java, JavaScript, React or Angular) to support long term maintainability and extensibility of code, as well as high quality and well- documented code in an automated CI and Test environment.

• You will design, develop and build application functions (using Java) that can be accessed via a REST API. When a service such as the user authorization service reaches capacity, you will be expected to leverage cloud elasticity techniques to scale it.

• You will be expected to showcase your experience with data stores and containerized applications code by looking up a customer’s mapping of a user’s authorized privileges.

• You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

• You will be monitored on your ability to design and write code to extend our existing microservices and develop new microservices as needed.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As a part of the platform and multi-cloud financial management team, you will:

• Collaborate with the Executive Team, Product Management, Architects, and existing engineering teams to design, develop, and publish software supporting a highly available, fault-tolerant SaaS platform.

• Produce software designs to support long-term maintainability and extensibility of code.

• Produce high quality and well-documented code in an automated CI/CD environment.

• Contribute to relevant open source projects.

• Participate in all phases of the software development cycle as part of a Scrum team.

• Work in multi-functional agile teams to regularly experiment, iterate, and deliver on new product objectives with end-to-end responsibility for your team’s goals.

• Obsess over quality in the code you write and the product you create.

• Advance your technical and interpersonal skills in an environment

that looks to expand them

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience designing and developing large enterprise-class products (packaged or cloud services).

• Excellent design and programming skills primarily with a focus on enterprise server solutions using Java.

• Familiarity in cloud technologies is a plus.

• Working knowledge of Web Services technologies. Knowledge of Spring Framework

• Full working knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, and commercial product development practices in a complex larger enterprise/cloud solutions.

• Working knowledge of basic technologies such as networking.

• Use of Open Source packages for common capabilities.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

• Hard-working with a “whatever it takes” attitude.

• Able to demonstrate effective teamwork both within the immediate team and across teams.

• Excellent communications skills and able to lead a team of highly technical individuals

Desired Qualifications

• Familiar with Agile/SCRUM development methodologies

• You are passionate for TDD and unit testing.

• You have a collaborative approach and are self-motivated.

• Experience with test frameworks and tooling
