Job Description

Mission We are looking for a talented Site Reliability Engineer to join our team and help build VMware’s highly successful SaaS product, VMware Cloud. VMware Cloud is built using a combination of industry-standard open-source solutions and internally developed applications, backed by the Kubernetes eco-system running on public cloud providers. As a senior SRE engineer you will represent the customer by providing service insight, response, and management to maintain high reliability with low touch through extensible services/platforms, standardized processes, data insights, and product input. You must be comfortable as a driver of the SRE work end to end. Someone who sets and manages the expectations of the stakeholders, in small and large group settings. • Independently work with the development teams on designing highly reliable, available, and distributed services
• Maintain & manage the availability of the VMware Cloud on AWS SaaS platform
• Conduct periodic on call rotation
• Lead design and code reviews with a major focus on best user experience, scalability and future expansion.
• Mentor engineers on the team for SRE best practices
• Drive development efforts of common tools and frameworks
• Provide technical leadership to team members and be a team player
• Mentor other engineers on the team regarding SRE best practices
• Lead post-mortems to analyze and prevent repeat failures
• Ensure infrastructure security compliance

Required Skills:

• 8+Yrs of experience in the fields of SRE, DevOps or production engineering
• Experienced with deployment and monitoring of highly scalable products in a SaaS model
• Background with Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field)
• Domain level understanding of Public/Private Cloud Infrastructure & Networking
• Experience operating, troubleshooting, and scaling online services
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Systematic problem-solving approach coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive
• Professional and open-minded attitude
• Proficient in a common scripting language: Bash, Python, Go, Ruby, etc.
• Skilled with platforms like Kubernetes, containers, and public clouds service

Preferred Skills:

• Experienced in leading SRE and DevOps work initiatives from inception to production
• Knowledge of SRE best practices and observability principles is a big plus
• Skillful in administering Linux systems in a production environment
• Have developed software using one or more object-oriented programming languages, i.e. Java, Python, Golang
• Background with infrastructure configuration and automations processes and tools: Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, Chef, Fabric, Helm, etc.
• Knowledgeable of security in the cloud: intrusion, penetration, and vulnerability scanning
• Have used tools such as Atlassian’s JIRA and PagerDuty
• Worked on an agile software development lifecycle team
• Experience with Change Management processes and functions
• Good working knowledge of build automation and continuous integration/delivery ecosystem: Git, Gerrit, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, Docker, Nexus, Artifactory, Selenium.
• Curious to learn new other coding languages and technologies as needed
• Identify, gather, analyze and automate responses to key performance metrics, logs, and alerts
