Staff 2 – Lead Engineer in Core Engineering Services

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Within your first 6 months
After 6 months+ You will be responsible for the unified Observability solution strategy within the Common Core Engineering Services organization in the Modern Applications and Management Business Group. Your primary goal will be shaping up an actionable strategy that can lead us to have a unified Observability solution by prioritizing the delivery as SaaS. So, basically, you will be responsible for enabling the leadership to see, recognize and address the right challenges staying on their way to get a unified solid Observability solution in the Cloud by providing 360-degree visibility towards the entire SDLC, but more importantly, towards the consumption behavior of our Customers.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
As a member of the Common Core Engineering Services and Operations team (aka ESO) within the Modern Applications and Cloud Management Business Group, you will:
Work with the global ESO team, product management, development, and other cross-functional teams to review and refine product requirements
Write technical design documents and hold reviews
Participate in team meetings including cross-functional/Geo/BU ones
Design, develop and maintain software that delivers on the team’s objectives
Mentor new and more junior members of the team
Participate in customer meetings including escalations, gather requirements, and facilitate the adoption of our solutions
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
This position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering, Khachik Nazaryan, an experienced leader who joined the Cloud Management ESO team in early 2014. Khachik is based in Palo Alto, USA. The team consists of highly competent engineers and managers in multiple geo-locations (USA, Armenia, India). We focus on quality, enterprise-scale/resiliency, and security of Cloud Management product-line and Cloud services, we focus on Customer success and represent the Customer voice internally by all possible means including acting as a true Customer-0, and more recently our primary focus is on leading the SaaS transformation of some of our solutions. You will initially be part of an established team that has a wide range of critical responsibilities, but the expectation is that you will help blaze a new avenue for the team and organization in the area of unified Observability solution, accelerating the Cloud-first strategy and overall SaaS transformation. This is a great opportunity for someone who likes to start new things and put their mark on a team and Company.
Where is this role located?
Flexible: The location of this role is flexible within India. The work can be done from one of the VMware’s offices in India some days during a week and other days can be done from a Home office.
