Position Description: Vocera is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer, Android with a passion for creating well-tested, scalable Smartphone enterprise applications. Familiarity with current application development frameworks on Android is a must. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working within a team environment (spread across North America and India) and is passionate about designing and building scalable mobile applications. You should have built complex enterprise applications and be well versed with the optimization factors on a mobile platform. This position reports to the Manager, Application Development Responsibilities * Plan, design and develop android applications that are highly scalable, secure, reliable, and deployed over a large customer base * Follow SOLID design principals, design patterns, and apply them to address specific product requirements * Apply current or emerging frameworks to meet the needs of the Vocera android client architecture * Accelerate development within the Vocera mobile team by providing technical leadership * Participate in and seek continuous learning through peer review * Lead the support, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues arising from internal testing or external defect reports * Collaborate effectively with Release Engineering, DevOps, IT, Tech Support, and Professional Services * Document processes, designs, and product capabilities as needed * Collaborate across teams to create development and QA practices and processes Competencies * Understanding of various non-functional aspects in Android application design the ability to provide a solution to optimize performance and scalability * Ability to rapidly learn and take advantage of new concepts and technologies * Strong understanding of mobile security protocols, analytics, and social channel integration * Knowledge of the open-source ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks * A passion for the end-to-end development of quality software products * Experience leading an Agile/Scrum development process using Jira and Confluence * Excellent troubleshooting and debugging, communications, and documentation skills * Dedicated in the face of ambiguous requirements; unafraid to explore new ideas and technologies * Resourceful and able to solve complex problems through adapting technology and a deep understanding of product architecture * Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills Requirements * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent * 8+ years of experience in designing and developing enterprise software applications including 4+ years of experience in architecting and developing applications on the Android platform * Advanced experience with Kotlin, MVP, RxJava3, Dagger2, Unit testing, Gradle, and Git * Strong knowledge of the Android mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies * Experience with SQLite, JSON, XML and Web Services * In depth understanding of the Agile software development lifecycle * Fully conversant with SOLID principles, software development frameworks, design patterns, and enterprise in mobile application integration * Experience with XMPP, Smack libraries, and Continuous Integration is desirable * Consistent track record of overcoming obstacles to deliver high quality technical results within committed time parameters * No travel required * Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required /Belief in Diversity/ /Vocera Communications is an Affirmative Action Employer committed to workforce diversity.
