This role will serve as part of Wood Mackenzie’s Hydrogen & Ammonia research team which sits within our Power & Renewables Research group. This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, global team and make a major contribution to the acceleration of the energy transition.
In the Hydrogen team we model total hydrogen system costs; develop discounted cash flows for individual projects; analyse project criteria; assess midstream opportunities and costs; develop emissions modelling; forecast demand by sub-sector by country; and supply by technology options. We interpret policies and provide alternate forecasts where our country level modelling reflects alternate pathways on the journey towards net-zero emissions.
Key internal collaborations within Wood Mackenzie are with our expert groups on transport, upstream, gas/LNG, oil/refining, chemicals, steel, metals, power, renewables, CCUS and more.
Job Description
We are looking for Hydrogen Associate to join our dynamic and expanding team in Asia Pacific. Working within our Hydrogen & Ammonia team the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting our global hydrogen coverage You will be responsible for collecting and updating hydrogen and derivative (ammonia, methanol, efuels, etc.) market data, carrying out market studies, supporting economic analysis, updating market forecasts and contributing to high-impact research reports for clients. You will integrate your analysis with the rest of the team deliverables, including insights on topics such as regional activity, technology development and policy evolution.
You will support the team and help develop cost modelling, supply / demand forecasting and emissions modelling by leveraging Wood Mackenzie’s proprietary data, models and expertise, as well by conducting your own primary research to fill in gaps on hard to seek analysis in each market. Importantly, you will develop your own relationships with industry partners. This will be to establish a knowledge base to test assumptions on market specifics, as well as to represent Wood Mackenzie’s research in a high-quality way to customers. You will require knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Query, Python scripts, and GraphQL.
This role includes industry-leading skills training and learning opportunities and has excellent career development potential in the rapidly evolving hydrogen market. You will get to work with a global team of hydrogen & ammonia experts to tackle some of the toughest research questions on the energy transition. This role also has good opportunities to present and discuss market trends and research with industry analysts and executives from leading energy, commodities, and financial companies.
Main Responsibilities
Track developments across the hydrogen value-chain (projects, electrolyser vendors, partnerships, offtake agreements, subsidies, FCEV’s, investments, policy targets, and more).
Build a strong relationship with industry stakeholders in the hydrogen emerging market space.
Conduct high-quality primary research with project developers, governments and investors on projects, costs, policy updates and market evolution.
Strengthen existing datasets through surveys, interviews, and secondary research.
Collaborate with SMEs and internal stakeholders across Wood Mackenzie to support the creation of our content.
Exhibiting modelling, data management and market forecasting skills
Delivering high-quality market insights and reports to clients.
Supporting requests from clients and senior colleagues.

Qualifications
This is an ideal role for a recent graduate or early-career professional wishing to launch a career as an analyst and eventually thought leader in the hydrogen and energy transition space. We expect you to have a high aptitude for quantitative analysis and modelling, and to be curious to get beyond the headlines on big technology and market trends.
The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualities, qualifications, and experience:
High interest and aptitude for market analysis and a strong interest in hydrogen and derivatives (ammonia, methanol, e-fuels etc).
0-2 years of relevant work or study experience in an analytical role. An understanding of hydrogen, power markets, technologies and economics is a plus.
Enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to expand knowledge and skills.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, science, economics, finance, or other area. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
Strong Excel skills including knowledge of Power Query. Relevant experience in Python Scripts and a familiarity with GraphQL to support your data and database management is a requirement.
Strong organisation, planning and time management skills
Effective writing and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory
