Weekday (YC W21) Looking For Head Of Legal at Bengaluru, Karnataka, Full Time

We are seeking an experienced Head of Legal to support our rapidly growing team. This role will serve as the primary counsel responsible for advising our business leaders on a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and licensing matters for our current and upcoming products in the payments and fintech space.

Job Brief

The Head of Legal will manage and expand the legal team, which primarily handles contracts, regulatory matters, litigation, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience as both an in-house counsel and possibly as an attorney with a law firm in India.

Responsibilities

• Advise the business and leadership on commercial, regulatory, and licensing matters related to payments and fintech.
• Manage and grow the legal team to support the expanding needs of the organization.
• Provide contract, compliance, commercial, and regulatory advice on key strategic initiatives.
• Resolve issues arising in existing commercial relationships.
• Handle pre- and post-litigation disputes and inquiries from government and regulatory bodies.
• Mentor and manage a team of internal lawyers and multi-location external legal associates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized institution in India.
• Extensive knowledge of the payments and fintech industry in India.
• Specialist legal skills in commercial law, regulatory matters, data privacy, and licensing regulations such as PAPG, PPI, NBFC AA, and BBPOU.
• Strong experience in litigation and handling external counsels.
• Proven ability to curate, mentor, and efficiently manage legal teams.
