Job Description

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 5 years relevant work experience, or 7+ years relevant work experience
• 7+ years of experience in, at least, one modern programming language such as Java, C, or C++ including object-oriented design
• 7+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
• 3+ years of experience in a technical team lead role

To keep up with rapid growth in demand, Alexa Devices is looking for an exceptional software engineer to expand Alexa’s core experiences for third party Alexa devices.

We are looking for a passionate engineer with experience in building innovative solutions for wide variety of applications. This role will be at the core of the Alexa experience across all Amazon and external devices. You will be able to work with a tight-knit, enthusiastic team developing new capabilities while constantly improving the performance, efficiency, reducing footprint of solutions that unlock new device categories and use cases every day.

Key job responsibilities

• Building software that enables integration of Alexa voice and multi-modal (visual) experiences that run on millions of Echo family devices, and Alexa-enabled third party devices.
• Collaborate with UX and Product owners to define the customer experience and product direction.
• Drive and lead software design, development standards, team processes and code reviews.
• Optimize software libraries for low latency, CPU and memory footprint.
• Deliver high-quality software through working in a dynamic, team-focused Agile/Scrum environment
• Contributing to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge and engineering practices.

About the team
The Alexa SDK team works on making Alexa features available for Amazon partners and internal teams including:

• Smart TVs – voice and screen technology used by Samsung, LG and others.
• Smart Home – enabling users to manage their smart home by voice through partners like Ecobee
• Smart Auto – voice technology to improve and personalize user experiences with in-car Alexa with partners like Stellantis and Lamborghini
• Smart Displays – screen and voice technology like Facebook Portal or Lenovo Smart Tabs
• Unannounced Projects – can’t tell you yet!

• 10+ years professional software development experience.
• Native Android, iOS or other mobile UI technologies
• Javascript and other front-end web technologies
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Excellent communication skills, sold work ethic, and a strong desire to write production-quality code
• Experience collaborating with UX, Product, and non-technical partners.
• Demonstrated track record as an owner: someone who can take a concept and make it real.
• Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
• Works well in a team environment and be able to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements
