Aditya Birla Chemicals Looking For Department Head – Strategy & Business Development at Mumbai Metropolitan Region Full Time

• Job Purpose:

To spearhead various CFI’s strategic initiatives relating to the existing CFI businesses and provide critical inputs for the decision-making processes. Plan and execute CFI’s entry into new businesses and geographies either through organic or inorganic route. Identify growth opportunities including M&A, JVs and partnerships for existing businesses as well as new growth areas. Lead and manage the annual business planning and budgeting for Strategy & Business Development, while also being accountable for formulating functional strategies.

Strategic Planning

• Keep track of industry, competition, external environment, etc. by providing guidance to the team member for collating reliable and relevant information
• Develop and implement long-term and short-term strategies for sustainable growth and profitability of the CFI business, with a focus on phase-wise development and growth of downstream businesses
• To assist finance team in developing financial models for the CFI businesses, as required, for evaluating the strategic options
• To assist business team in executing the strategic plan as per roadmap and keep track of the progress on regular basis
• Regularly update the strategic plan in line with the changing internal and external environment
• Deliver the strategy presentation to the relevant stakeholders

Business Development/ New Sectors

• Identify new growth opportunities for the CFI sector in the adjacent to the existing businesses or new completely new areas
• Carry out detailed analysis of industry environment, competition, key growth/ value drivers and risks of the identified opportunity to help develop a value proposition
• Develop or assist finance team in developing detailed financial model demonstrating the attractiveness of the new business, funding requirements and returns
• Identify critical path activities and manage various workstreams (consultants, marketing agencies, etc.) involved in evaluating the opportunity
• Evaluate various options for entry strategy and provide recommendation on appropriate entry strategy
• Highlight key risks and challenges in executing the entry strategy
• Provide guidance in structuring the presentation basis defined output and identify key takeaways

M&A, Joint Ventures and Partnership Opportunities

• Scan the environment and identify opportunities for business expansion through M&A, joint ventures or partnerships
• Evaluate M&A targets received by the investment bankers and recommend ‘Go/No-Go’ with the detailed rationale
• Identify and engage with the technical, finance & commercial, and legal consultants, for providing support in due diligence and review the findings of the due diligence develop or assist finance team for preparing detailed financial model and transaction structure, as required
• Analyze key assumptions to arrive at the valuation for the asset and identify key value drivers and assumptions driving the valuation
• Review investment proposals and transaction flows
• Co-ordinate and lead discussion with the potential partners (Global and domestic) to identify the alliance structure (e.g. JV, technology supply, sales and marketing alliance, prospective chlorine users etc.)
• Provide inputs to Corporate Finance division to identify, evaluate and finalize investment banks for transaction execution
• Support planning and execution of M&A/JV transactions by coordinating with corporate functions, investment banks, consultants and presenting the plan to the Chief Strategy Officer & Business Head
• Negotiate key terms of the transaction with the Sellers/buyers/JV partners
• Work with legal counsel to develop transaction related documents including definitive agreements

Advocacy

• Lead advocacy initiatives and meet key government officials, regulators, and industry associations to make representations towards influencing policy level decisions leading to demand creation and trade protection.
• Liaise with government officials and industry associations
• Participate in industry/trade conferences to keep track of latest developments in the industry and develop the network of relevant peer groups/industry experts

Business Planning & Budgeting

• Review annual business plans prepared by CFI businesses and provide inputs in order to align with the long-term strategic plan. Identify gaps in the annual business plans with respect to the strategic plan and scan opportunities or options in order to mitigate the gaps.
• Take responsibility for managing budgets for Business Development in alignment with the annual targets and the broader organizational strategy

Incubation

• Responsible to drive strategy and implementation of approach for new areas of business that have gained board approval
• Lead incubation of the new business area by putting in place the formative systems, processes and technology aided by short-, mid- and long-term planning for the buildout of the business
• Basis the business charter and plan, mobilize resources by building the business case and leading discussions with CEO and other leaders
• Partner with the stakeholders to commence identification of external consultants to help with specific expertise required to augment, internal project and commercial expertise
• Commence greenfield / brownfield project development basis specific business context with strong planning towards hiving it into a separate business upon reaching a certain level of maturity

Functional Leadership

• Define and monitor functional KPIs
• Continuously develop and improve procurement practices, branding, advocacy & marketing initiatives, procedures, and systems to reduce costs and increase efficiency by simplifying business processes
