The Sr Manager, Engineering Platform is an experienced technology practitioner who will provide overall technical, architectural, and execution leadership of the continued evolution of the engineering practice at AAP. Key to this approach is the growth of Advance’s born-on-the-cloud engineering methodologies and API-centric developer ecosystem that enables engineers to more easily construct consumer-facing applications by accessing our core services. The Sr Manager will lead the DevOps center-of-excellence, including all aspects of our Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment pipeline that drives consistency across the Enterprise. With a product-centric discipline, the engineering platform enables a framework to evolve back-end services in parallel to the execution of customer facing applications, ultimately driving faster agility and time-to-market of key features.

With Advance’s Enterprise Architecture setting the architectural strategy, this Sr Manager will set the engineering strategy and foster ways to increase engineering productivity and efficiency through best practices and growing a high performing team that leverages modern technologies. Additionally, this execution will set the tone to grow and foster the Engineering discipline within AAP by providing foundational capabilities that Engineers will leverage. Ultimately, success in this position will require core cross functional expertise coupled with strong leadership skills and adherence to our company’s cultural values.

Lead the DevOps discipline and center-of-excellence practice that promotes a culture of engineering excellence with a focus on speed to market, performance, scalability, privacy, and security.

Foster and grow and engineering-centric culture to facilitate the creation and evolution of our technical solutions and services

Must possess expert technical understanding of development and operational processes – deployment, testing, monitoring and management tools.

Lead the design and implementation of public / private / hybrid cloud-based information systems across all phases of system engineering from provisioning to decommissioning

Lead the design, development, and continual improvement of source code management / build and release systems and tools

Lead the development of automated pipelines, processes & scripts to support the deployment of technology solutions in cloud environments

Collaborate with Development, Quality Assurance, Operations, Support, and Infrastructure leadership to maintain high-quality deployment artifacts as capabilities move through the delivery pipeline

Work with Technical Leads, Software Architects and Quality Assurance Engineers to resolve capability development roadblocks

Partner with application and architecture teams on the evolution of engineering services that automate and improve the interaction of the broader engineering platform.

Partner with the Enterprise Architecture and Cloud infrastructure teams on defining and designing hybrid multi cloud platform solutions that are secure, reliable, scalable, and highly available. Work closely with infrastructure and networking counterparts to ensure tight enablement, growth, scale, and availability of the platform.

Attract, develop, and retain highly specialized platform and cloud talent in diverse technical areas to help scale the availability and maturity of our platform services

Drive the continuous improvement of the engineering practice through periodic assessment of the effectiveness of engineering standards, methodologies, and processes.

Partner with Enterprise architecture team in research or POC efforts on emerging platforms and technologies to support cloud engineering and application development efforts.

Provide application performance and feature capability improvement recommendations to product development team for better customer experience.

Drive product excellency through fully incorporating Operations Requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience

Established track record of coaching team members to develop beyond their current strengths and be ready to transition to the next level

5+ years in Leading Application Development or Infrastructure Engineering Teams

3+ years of experience in Leading DevOps or Cloud Teams

3 + AWS, Azure or GCP experience is required

3+ years of experience with large-scale container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker Swarm, etc. in production environments.

Strong familiarity with Node.JS, AngularJS, API management, Micro-services, Java/JEE application stacks

Experience with DevOps technologies such as Jenkins / Circle-CI, Docker, GIT, Maven, Ant, JIRA, etc. is required

Working knowledge of logging and monitoring tools such as New Relic, Splunk, AppDynamics, ELK, CloudTrail. CA APM (Wily Introscope) and Nagios

Good scripting background (Shell, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, Python, etc.)

Good understanding of Networking concepts (NAT, DNS, routing, etc.), with practical hands-on and administrative experience with network appliances is a plus

Strong communication skills that effectively convey key messages, status, and risks

Be able to work with teams with varying levels of technical backgrounds and experiences

Experience in supporting product / agile development teams

Background in systems architecture is a plus

Micro-Services and SOA architecture is a plus

Experience with database technologies such as Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, etc. is a plus.
