The Role

The Country Director, India is a leadership role which will support exporters from the Australian state of South Australia to enter and grow in the India market, as well as facilitate and secure foreign direct investment from India into South Australia. The position is locally based in Mumbai, co-located within the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) office and will have coverage of the India market.

The position will contribute to the South Australian Government’s priority sectors with a specific focus on opportunities and strategic engagement stemming from the Australia-India Economic Cooperation Agreement (AI-ECTA) and will focus on increasing engagement between the two regions in the areas of: food, wine and agribusiness, technology services, renewable energy, space industries and health.

Key responsibilities of the role will be to build and maintain relationships with senior and influential businesses, peak industry bodies and government stakeholders in the market. This will enable South Australian businesses linkages to corporates, government and key decision makers within business and family offices.

Reporting to the Trade and Investment Commissioner, Mumbai, as Country Director, India, you will also support and drive the development and implementation of ministerial and business mission programs to India, designed to create opportunities for South Australian businesses, and contribute to the strategic role of the Indian market.

As The Country Director You Will

• Develop and nurture your own pipeline of commercial leads and provide them with relevant information on commercial opportunities in South Australia.
• Develop and nurture existing relationships and new contacts and networks to understand trade and investment opportunities for South Australian companies seeking to trade with India with a focus on priority sectors.
• Identify opportunities to promote South Australia as a location for investment and deliver presentations at relevant conferences and business events.
• Support South Australian exporters in priority sectors to enter and grow in India, including providing market intelligence and connections with commercial partners.
• Monitor and assess key business and sectoral trends as well as significant commercial developments across the India market.
• Undertake market research and analysis to identify market trends for emerging business opportunities for South Australian companies.
• Maintain and build relationships with key in-market companies, industry players, government agencies and other stakeholders.
• Oversee and be responsible for the delivery of business matching activities.
• Be commercially savvy, and be outcomes focused to deliver and achieve Key Performance Indicator targets for South Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:

• Work Authorisation – to be eligible for employment with Austrade in the India, candidates must be legally authorised to live and work in the India at the time of appointment.
• Language – the successful candidate must be a highly motivated team member, fluent in written and spoken English.
• Security Clearance – the successful applicant must be willing to complete an Entry Level Screening Pack and be confirmed as a suitable person to access Government resources prior to commencement in the

role.
