BMS Hyderabad is an integrated global hub where our work is focused on helping patients prevail over serious diseases by building sustainable and innovative solutions. This important science, technology, and innovation center will support a range of technology and drug development activities that will help us usher in the next wave of innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Setup, develop and lead a community of data professionals in India from the ground up. This includes developing and executing the strategy to recruit, onboard and operationalize over 200 data professionals with diverse experience and skills within the new BMS India site in period of 12-18 months.

• Lead the engineering and operations of the data platforms and data infrastructure the enable the ingestion, extraction, refinement, transformation and life-cycle management of large volumes of enterprise data to generate actionable insights. This includes the engineering and operations of data lakehouse platform, spark-based data processing environment, data engineering tools and metadata management tools in a cloud environment for enterprise use.

• Create and foster a vibrant, inclusive, and innovation-oriented culture consistent with BMS values and ingrained in BMS mission to serve patients.

• Closely partner with the Enterprise Data and Analytics Platform team to shape data and technology strategy. Become the local change champion, evangelist, and accountable executive to implement and enable the global data strategy including talent acquisition, training programs and best practice rollout and enforcement within the BMS India talent base

• Help define and operationalize a matrixed organization where the members of data community get local management, coaching, training, and career development as part of the community. At the same time, assign employees to autonomous product-oriented pods that deliver business outcomes prioritized by functional heads across global BMS sites and take accountability for delivery and operational excellence.

• Define and implement career pathways, rotation opportunities and stretch assignments that provide ample growth and learning opportunities to the entire community.

• Plan and host innovation events such as hackathons, learning programs, digital showcases and competitions to imbibe a culture of continuous learning and experimentation, creating a data and analytics powerhouse.

• Create and maintain local talent needs and projections and implement recruiting strategy to fulfill the needs. Lead and establish local partnership and alliances to develop local talent pipeline and sourcing options.

• Provides strategic feedback to vendors on service delivery, influences vendor delivery at a strategic level. Synthesize multiple analyses towards solving broader business issues/initiatives. Represents discipline or function on program/project teams.

Qualifications & Experience

• A Seasoned data professional and leader with demonstrated ability to setup, build and foster large and highly-motivate data organization delivering cross-functional business outcomes

• 3-5 years of experience leading a cross-functional data organization with accountability to deliver tangible business value through data and analytical solutions. Demonstrated ability to shape and translate data strategy to tangible initiatives the increase the data IQ and data maturity of the organization.

• 7-10 years of hands-on experience working on implementing and operating data capabilities and cutting-edge data solutions, preferably in a cloud environment. Breadth of experience in technology capabilities that span the full life-cycle of data management including data lakehouses, master/reference data management, data quality and analytics/AI ML is needed.

• Hands-on experience managing and delivering data solutions with some of the technologies like AWS data services (Glue, Redshift, Athena, lakeformation, etc.), Cloudera Data Platform, Web logic, Mulesoft, Tableau, Spotfire, Domino Data labs, etc. a definite plus.

• Experience and expertise in establishing agile and product-oriented teams that work effectively with teams in US and other global BMS site.

• Ability to quickly immerse and understand the core values and culture of a large organization like BMS and create an environment to extend and build that culture at new sites.

• Ability to clearly articulate the BMS mission, vision and values and demonstrate a clear line of sight to how the work of the organization directly enables that vision.

• Responsible for the direct management of one or multiple teams including results/outcomes, goal setting, performance management, coaching.

• Has significant input into decisions related to hiring, performance reviews, promotions, and compensation actions. Considers broader business needs when managing colleague development, recruitment, succession planning, and diversity.

• Leads complex, multi-disciplinary projects including resource and budget allocation and operational leadership.

• Oversees deliverable product, sets vision and standards for work products, challenges teams. Lead a mix of multiple functions, geographies and/or capabilities.

• Delivers across a range of issues with strong influence and trust. In difficult / stressful situations shows resilience and encourages calm and rationale behavior of teams. Identifies multiple solutions and recommendations to senior leaders. May contribute to decision-making that guides the strategic direction of the function.

• Structures series of communications to achieve broader organizational/team goals. Tailors’ communication content and style to ensure stakeholder understanding.

• Identifies gaps in capabilities across the function and ensures developmental opportunities are provided to ensure the continued growth and development of colleagues.
