Summary and Mission

The Principal Software Engineer, RPA Development will be accountable for implementing and supporting strategic Enterprise initiatives with global automations to accelerate patient access, shape medical practice, and drive appropriate adoption of BMS medicines. This role owns end-to-end responsibility for managing the design, development, and technical support of RPA platforms, primarily on the Automation Anywhere platform, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, & secure. The Principal Engineer, RPA Development role will provide strong technical architecture, design & development oversight and contribute across IT EAP Intelligent Automation/RPA team comprised of BMS staff, onshore and offshore contractors/vendor partners. The successful candidate will be a seasoned technical lead with hands-on experience across a wide range of current IT technologies.

The role manages a high performing team of developers collaborating with the Enterprise teams and with the BMS Digital Capability Manager to develop, enhance and deliver automations across the Enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Clearly assess & analyze business requirements and develop architectural and technical artifacts.

• Provide technical direction to the RPA development team throughout the project delivery.

• Offer technical decisions regarding the solution design, by closely partnering with the cross technical teams that includes IT Cybersecurity, Data Privacy Office, ITVS, ITQA, and other downstream application teams.

• Actively participate & drive automation POCs, design & architecture for all new RPA implementation or enhancements.

• Work in a delivery-focused application development environment, proactively owning the technical design and delivery of robust, scalable, and well documented Enterprise automations.

• Work towards full life cycle implementation of automations and services: requirement analysis, design, development, test, implementation, and support.

• A track record of managing & significantly contributing to a portfolio of development projects, successfully balancing priorities, resolving issues, and communicating status.

• Ability to contribute to strategic direction and to convert strategy to execution, including driving a strong architectural strategy.

• Model the BMS core behaviors: decide and act, connect and collaborate, innovate, and improve, grow, and engage.

• Be a coder, as well as the “go to” technical architect for team’s most challenging technical needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hands-on working experience with Automation Anywhere platform, Configuration, and Control Room, including change management through ServiceNow. Ability to develop automations, using Automation Anywhere, python, ML, connect via APIs, etc.

• Proven knowledge and work experience in Automation Anywhere and AWS automation services and Integration to design & build technical solutions and implementation of Enterprise automations.

• Knowledge & working experience with automations with SAP, Workday, Veeva, Aris-G, etc.

• Must have experience dealing across broad technical domain teams such as Cybersecurity, Network, Infrastructure, Data, etc.

• Experience with broader programming technologies such as XML, JSON, Python, JavaScript.

• Experience across a diverse set of cloud providers: AWS, Azure, etc.

• Work experience in AI, NLP & ML is preferred.

• Understanding of architecture methodologies, validated and qualified platforms, compliance, SOX requirements.

• Deep knowledge of IT methodologies such as SDLC and Agile techniques required.

• Proven abilities to plan, manage, deliver, and support strategic digital capability programs, from concept initiation through delivery and steady-state operations.

• Experience in dealing with complex technical issues and working with key stakeholders to develop and provide solutions for short-term remediation and long-term strategy.

• Experience in developing technical strategies to support implementations and long-term maintenance of Intelligent Automation based solutions.

• Ability to balance delivery needs, while adjusting to changing priorities.

• Requires advanced knowledge applicable to a wide range of work in own function and thorough knowledge of other functions, typically gained through a university degree and 6-8 years of experience.

• May lead initiatives related to continuous improvement or implementation of new technologies. Works independently on most deliverables.

• Responsible for the RPA developers including results/outcomes, design review, delivery of automations, and platform support.

• Provides input into decisions related to technical hiring and performance reviews.

• Provides oversight and daily guidance for Individual Contributors within the team.

• Demonstrates ability to build and leverage relationships through diplomacy.​

• Articulates and presents complex information clearly and concisely across all levels. Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and expertise thereby establishing a strong reputation for themselves and the team.​

• Participates in decision making and brings a variety of strong views and perspective to achieve team objectives. ​
