Job Title: Senior Manager – Finance & Accounts
Purpose of job:
The Senior Manager Finance & Accounts Manager supports the Finance Controller in departmental strategic decision making and policy formation in order to maintain a high performing department and build a high-achieving team.
Role context
This role supports the day to day operations of the India SSC and does not have line management responsibility for finance and accounting service delivery to internal customers across the British Council.
Main opportunities/challenges for this role
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
Responsible for end to end accounting activities including Accounts Payables, Receivables, General Ledger Accounting, Purchase and Sales transactions, Reconciliation of Accounts, statutory compliances and support in Finalization of Finance & Accounts
Perform duties related to Treasury, Fixed Assets, Taxation, Payroll, MIS, Audit Management
Build internal controls over various activities undertaken within the accounting and finance functions.
Ensuring integrity and completeness of financial records & compliance with financial control standard
Preparation and updating policies and process for various accounting, reporting and compliance activities
Providing technical support on accounting and tax issues
Ensuring all internal & external compliances is met in time along with reviewing of trackers for all compliances on monthly basis
Training the new starters in the team and providing direction to guide them on day to day basis
Duties & Responsibilities
Budgeting and Decision Support
Responsible for planning, preparation and monitoring of SSC budgets and forecasts in line with organisational timetable
Responsible for providing all business analytics and cost / performance reporting for the India SSC operations.
Preparation & Submission of rollover forecast for remaining months
Development and quality review of capital investment proposals for the India SSC.
Tax and Regulatory Compliance
Responsible for accurately / correctly completing, filing, maintaining and safeguarding all statutory and regulatory documentation related to the SSC.
Responsible for ensuring correct and timely submission of tax returns for Corporate Tax/ Service Tax/ Withholding tax and all other tax related documentation in relation to Group requirements
Responsible for managing all statutory and regulatory audits of the SSC in line with the country regulations and IAS 16
Developing appropriate systems/process to track refunds/ensure visibility on taxes paid/tax liabilities
Provide guidance on payroll/compensation tax issues.
Manage inter-company billing arrangements for the SSC.
Funds Management/Cash Flows and Bank relationship
Responsible for ensuring submissions of monthly cash flow forecasts
Manage and maintain relationship with Bankers and UK treasury
MIS & Reporting
Preparation of the monthly performance dashboards including analysis of budget v/s actual expenses, analysis of forecast v/s actual expenses
Preparation of financial details for meetings with directors and other review meetings
Finalize monthly and quarterly results, balance sheet, profit & loss account for management reporting
Accounts & Finance
Responsible for month end book closing for the entity, up to date maintenance of P&L and Balance Sheet schedules, GL and vendor reconciliations
Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, schedules including cash flow
Responsible for reporting of Financial Statement as per IGAAP
Supervise and monitor the receivables and payables situation to achieve appropriate working capital levels and monitor cash flows, bank accounts
Supervise all regular accounting processes such as A/P and Journal Entries plus monthly closure accounts
Taxation
Ensuring queries/ demands/ notices from the Department are responded as per timelines
Ensuring compliances as to Transfer Pricing requirement for TP study and TP audit
Review and manage tax compliances for the entity (Corporate Tax, WHT, GST Employee Social Security)
Ensuring Statutory Compliances with respect to payroll, TDS, Service Tax, VAT, Workers Contract Tax
Coordination with the UK tax team for all inter-company queries and clarification
Maintaining regular updates on all changes in the tax laws and their application on the company
Managing Corporate Taxation and other tax matters along with Consultants & Lawyers, RBI Reporting for foreign remittances and Company Secretarial compliances
Ensuring monthly Computation of TDS, Service Tax, VAT, WCT & Filing of Quarterly TDS Return, VAT Return, WCT Return Half yearly Service Tax Return
Audits
Co-ordination with Statutory and Internal Auditors, Bankers and global counterparts
Provide support to auxiliary schedules for auditing purposes
Treasury
Ensuring booking and meeting the foreign exchange requirements
Ensuring daily, weekly and monthly bank reconciliations are prepared
Fixed Assets
Ensure accurate accounting of fixed assets as per local laws and compliance with global policies
Ensure annual physical verification
Responsible for maintaining and managing Fixed Assets and related MIS
People Management
Line manage 8-10 resources
Ensure team is motivated through training, carrer progression, etc.
