About the Role
As a Cloud Engineering Specialist in the BT Business Digital team, you are motivated by the opportunity to shape and define what DevOps looks like and drive DevOps adoption. You follow the latest developments in technology and explore ways to adopt them, thinking beyond the obvious.
You’ll be building DevOps engineering capability and defining, evolving, and governing DevOps standards and principles. You will assist with the automation of tasks from build and deployment through monitoring and alerting, championing a DevOps culture, with automation at its core, and supporting developers in building and maintaining pipelines. You will have accountability for pushing on from our existing baseline to introduce feature branch deployments, and releases and defining the deploy vs release approach we take alongside standard releases through all stages.
Your day-to-day activities will include being the technical lead to an agile cross-discipline squad, working with developers, SDETs, scrum masters and product owners to deliver customer-driven outcomes considering DevOps as a first concern when designing and building products. You will also be educating and coaching delivery teams to adopt a true DevOps mindset and championing a DevOps culture, with automation at its core.
Responsibilities
Demonstrable experience in acting as a DevOps Lead in an Agile organisation.
Experience in driving DevOps adoption and defining best practices, and guiding developers in adhering to these.
Play an integral part in providing our DevOps capabilities within the team and provide solutions to the challenging problems that we are trying to solve for all developers.
Be a proponent of automation, identifying opportunities for us to go faster, while keeping security and best practices in mind.
Work with your peers, PO, EM, Architects and finally with all the great people in the department and ensure the correct technical decisions are being made to deliver brilliant experiences.
Contribute to Scrum ceremonies, platform technical direction and strategy.
Coach and mentor junior members
Lead and work with the onsite, nearshore, and offshore engineering team
Lead the technical analysis and troubleshooting of operational and security-related issues.
Skills Required
5+ hands-on experience in some or all of our core technical stack: TypeScript, Node.js, Terraform, Pulumi, GitLab, AWS and other cloud offerings.
Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services and serverless architectures in the cloud
Hands-on experience using CI/CD tools – GitLab, Jenkins (or other).
Experience in leading technical teams and driving software delivery improvements/automation, with technical and behavioural leadership experience.
Attitude to adapt to new technologies is desirable.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
Good to have – AWS certification – ideally a solutions architect associate or a specialism.
