Why this job matters
This job is required to manage data using a database management system (DBMS) and database administration to assure the proper usage and deployments of the BT Group and Technology data and databases. The Third line DBA team support all Oracle Databases and associated components that form the teams deigned supported estate. Also, ensure database integrity is maintained and database access is secured.
What you’ll be doing
Installs the database software and selects from various options in the product to configure for the purpose it is being deployed. Help application teams to use latest DBMS software versions, PSU patching and database migrations. Ensure all designs for Oracle Databases are fit for purpose and adhere to BT Standards. Ensure High availability for all the production systems by implementing Clustering, replication and standby databases.
SR, IR, PR and Change management. Provide infrastructure support in accordance with all applicable and defined service level agreements covering the defined supported estate for Change, Incident, Problem activities and Service requests. Focusing and prioritising on the key deliverables for all those applications deemed critical to BT’s operations, such as BT Critical and Service Management Level Cat 0, 1 & 2 applications. Participate in 24×7 on-call rota for production faults once necessary knowledge and skills obtained.
Cost Management. Help achieve cost savings by uplifting & decommissioning EOSL databases. Assist/Drive service improvement initiatives – reducing storage, power, compute cost, driving automation and process efficiency.
Monitoring and Database Security. Implement pre-emptive maintenance, monitoring and housekeeping routines across all defined supported systems to assist in reduction in reactive incidents. Provide weekly reports/feedback when requested. Maintain database integrity and ensure access is secured to BT standards.
What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities
Ensure that all services are delivered within the framework of BT core values and in line with BT Policies and Procedures.
Contribute to the recruitment, appointment and induction of DBA Team.
Manage and support DBA Teams in line with Policies and Procedures, including supervision, absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues.
Promote and support effective team working through good communication and regular team meetings.
Identify individual and team learning and development needs and plan to meet these in conjunction with learning and development staff.
Provide Technical Guidance to Senior Managers and Delivery Units on ‘Best Practice’ with regard to the delivery of Oracle database products and services.
Able to support, coach and motivate a technical teams in the delivery of secure and robust Oracle database products and services.

Follow Change management process to protect BT services by supporting and controlling the enhancement, modification, removal or movement of any of the components that make up the IT estate – that is managed and/or supported by the Technology group.
Communication & Collaboration – Provide consultancy and guidance to deliveries and applications, using own technical expertise to reduce database delivery cycle time and improve stability of business applications.
